I can see the AU, where Rodney is the neurotic-but-brilliant chess player... and in this universe, it turns out that the Ancients played something very like chess, and in order to access anything in the Stargates, a person needs both the gene and the ability to play Ancient chess in order to figure out the dynamic passwords. Between them, Daniel Jackson and Jack O'Neill don't do too badly, but, they're still pretty limited to a few short jumps. (Because it really sucks to have to figure out a chess problem in order to dial home -- especially when the locals are trying to kill you.) The SGC tries to recruit Rodney but fails, the Trust tries to kidnap/blackmail Rodney, but fails -- thus far -- by totally underestimating both how abrasive, how self-preserving, and how socially clueless Rodney is. But the Trust is taking over, and Sheppard thinks he could get his crew out through the Stargate if he only had a better chess partner, so he goes to talk to Rodney, who is pretty sure that Sheppard is neither SGC (look at that hair!) nor Trust (look at that hair!), and besides, he's hot, so...
Then there's lots of running away from thugs, during which Sheppard kicks ass, and a scorching hot kiss of "OMG, we're still alive!" in an alley, and then some angst of "can we get to the Stargate and save the crew or is it all for naught? Is he just using me?" And then they meet up with the crew at the McMurdo gate! And they dial up Atlantis! And then they get through! And they end up rolling around necking on the floor of the Atlantis gateroom while the rest of the crew goes off to explore!
But just as they start trying to undo trousers, someone calls over the radio about losing power and fish swimming by the windows, and....

Yeah.
So, anyway. Yes, I can see this.
