After all these years, the spouse is still willing but helpless. Also -- this is only partly his fault; the layout of our home kitchen is so bad that it has to be seen to be believed -- but somehow he unerringly comes to talk to me and leans against precisely the place where I'm getting ready to open a drawer!

The kidlet isn't quite invisible-hand yet, but she takes direction well and remembers things from one dinner to the next, unlike her absent-minded father. Now if I could just teach her to read ahead in the recipe and anticipate the next step ...
