The makeup remover from Fraser’s kit smelled unscented. Which was not the same as not having any smell, but at least there wasn’t any pregnant mucus this time. Where Fraser was involved, you had to be thankful for small blessings, smellwise.

Yeah, ever since I came into due South fandom I've pretty much been in a constant state of either writing fic for it or making notes of plotbunnies for it or having WIPs -- as you say -- "lying around". Some of the WIPs are "waiting for the characters to tell me what's next" and some are "this WAS a popular trope, but I'm wondering if it would be 'out-of-step' now".

I hear that. And nowadays you're writing historical fiction, too -- sometimes I have to actually do research to learn if something had been invented yet when canon happened.
