I'm beginning to feel like I only show up in LJ either to whine or to extort congratulations from everyone. Today I'm doing the latter: The first draft of the romance novel is finished! Whoo-hoo! [insert wild undignified capering]

After wasting a lot of my writing time noodling unproductively (or playing Alchemy), I finally discovered the Four Pillars of Overcoming My Own Personal Procrastination Habit:

1. Outline the hell out of it first.

2. Write it in longhand. The computer is a big box of procrastination.

3. Require myself to write 500 words a day. That's not very much, really -- five pages of the little hand-sized spiral notebook I use -- but it's steady progress.

4. Every day, leave off in the middle of a sentence. That way it's easier to get started the next day.

Actually I think what I'll do is e-mail the title to people who ask, since the author's real name usually appears on the copyright page, and I'd just as soon that my real name and this one didn't get connected even by so tenuous a thread. (As a writer friend says, horrified: "Not only are my parents still alive -- they have a computer!")
