December Daily: Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers

I'm not normally very OTP-ish, but I find that if Bucky is alive, I want him and Steve together.

But if I'm going to read Sam/Steve, you know what I want? I want Sam to need help and Steve to provide it.

Because I get it -- Sam is that amazing rarity, a genuine full-grown adult man, and Marvel and fanwriters alike grab hold of him and go, "Finally! Somebody who can be relied upon to suggest that possibly there are treatments for PTSD other than bloody vengeance!" But I want to see Sam need something.

Like, OK, maybe he's seriously injured. Long recovery time, very hard physical therapy. And he is the worst patient ever, so that physical therapists who lined up to treat him at first because he's so handsome and charming are now drawing straws to determine who'll be forced to work with him today.

And probably there's a touch of survivor guilt going on, and there's nothing you can say to him that he doesn't see right through, because he's in the field, right? So every time anybody tries to say anything therapeutically correct, he can probably tell them which book they read it in, and he's not having any of it.

I can actually see a turning point where Sam finishes doing his home PT, shirtless and shining with sweat and righteous fury, and Steve is standing there dumbstruck, and Sam is ready to snarl a response to any number of encouraging responses, but he has nothing at all to say to, "Dear god, you're beautiful -- oh, shit, did I say that out loud?"

Oh, I LOVE that. I do like to see Sam being vulnerable or imperfect in some way, and yeah, people don't write him that way much at all.

Lol, I would love to read that fic. I have the same problem with going to therapy -- tried it once and it didn't work for that reason.
