New SGA story: Girlfriend

I've posted a new SGA story to my website.

Girlfriend
McKay/Sheppard -- NC-17 -- 6,900 words
"Rodney, you are the strangest man I've ever met. And ... almost the strangest woman."

Beta thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza and [livejournal.com profile] terrio.

Wonderful. I grinned so hard at so many places in this because their attitudes are perfect - John being the gentleman who really doesn't want to be one, Rodney all experimental. Totally enjoyable.

"But I fear that no one would suffer such a disruption simply for the sake of information." Ahahahaha. Oh yeah.

I loved this take on Rodney, who could really care less what gender people see him as, and John, who's a little bit okay mostly completely gay. It's like Rodney honestly couldn't understand why anybody might like one kind of body more than another, but it's so crucial to John.

Also hot. Very, very hot. John finally actually having sex and not just pretending to--oh yeah. Oh boy.

how weird must it be to have a whole fifty percent of the human race that you couldn't be attracted to?

My feeling exactly, Rodney.

What a great example of using sex scenes to show character development. Especially for John: the way sex with a woman is by-the-book, but the more he thinks of it as being with a man the more into it he becomes.

Oh, I just adore the way Rodney is so pleased with himself and his breasts and the rest of his physical femaleness! And John, when he said "I didn't ask," Sheppard said flatly, "and nobody told me." I wondered if he had wanted Rodney to ask *him* about himself, or wished Rodney had told him that he liked men, earlier, because of course John wouldn't ask.

That's a fascinating gender study. See... that's why I read your stuff, eloquent, erotic, and EDUCATIONAL!

[identity profile] ladyagnew.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
HEE. This is scorching hot and gives awesome Rodney (you managed to capture the elusive and irritating nature of his charming arrogance) -- but most of all, you writ such weird Sheppard. He's such a ... freak; I love your interpretation of his maladjusted, quirky personality.

That is fantastic. So hot and with enough twists to make genderswap funny and new again.

Oh wow. *happy happy sigh* Thank you.

iawtac like whoa.

Points for not having Rodney freak out! He's a scientist, it's an experiment, and hey, breasts! Excellent story! (ooh, I love genderfuck :D)

Nice!

Rodney is awesome. I especially liked this:

"Oh, please. This is an unprecedented opportunity for knowledge! Many men claim to know how a woman feels, but until now no one has ever known from experience. I'm going to win every argument ever!"

and this:

Maybe he should find someone who'd been born female and commiserate about the porcine nature of men. Maybe it would even get him laid.

and this:

"Well," Rodney said, mollified. "And well it should,"

I also love how Rodney emerges from his experience with no more understanding of and sympathy for the female condition than he had before. I would have been a little sad were that not the case.

Apropos, it's interesting that you used the male pronoun for Rodney throughout. Was that something you had to make a decision about, or did it come naturally?

Aw, Dude. :)

Bwah! I keep coming back to look at this. It's so perfect. Rodney is T.Rex. And he's certainly not composing erotica in his head right now!

[identity profile] resonant8.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I think it would be a different matter if Rodney didn't get a choice, but as long as he knows he can go back when he's done, hell yes he's going to try it!

[identity profile] resonant8.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you liked it! I don't know why I write so much bossy Rodney. My inner John makes me.

[identity profile] resonant8.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Genderswitching is one of those things that are totally implausible but other than that fine!

[identity profile] resonant8.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you liked it! Probably the only woman who's ever really enjoyed Rodney's brand of appreciation is Rodney himself.

[identity profile] resonant8.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
He's so delightful as long as we don't have to deal with him in real life, isn't he? Glad you liked it.

[identity profile] resonant8.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you liked it!

[identity profile] resonant8.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you liked it! John's path to happiness is clear: Just have something totally impossible happen, and after that everything will be fine.

I actually think that this Rodney has too much self-esteem to successfully pass as a woman. If he were going to stay that way, he'd have to learn to fake a certain amount of irrational shame.

[identity profile] resonant8.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad you liked it! I had a lot of fun with it. I kind of wish I'd had the opportunity to take Rodney back to Atlantis and see what he'd do when people started treating him like a woman. Can you imagine some random strange man saying to Rodney, "Smile, honey!"

[identity profile] resonant8.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
John is perfectly comfortable with women as long as nobody expects him to relate to them on any emotional level. Which is why I feel sorry for Teyla, who periodically has to hug him for medical reasons.

glad you liked it!

[identity profile] resonant8.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that was the whole reason I wrote the story. For a long time I was just happy going around imagining in my own head what Rodney would be like as a woman, but when it occurred to me that John would sleep with female Rodney while fantasizing about a male one -- well, them's writin' words.
