You give me a fannish character I'm reasonably familiar with, and for that person I will give you a hangup. You know: a sexual dysfunction, an unexpected inhibition or aversion, some perfectly ordinary thing he/she simply cannot handle.

Yay, Luna! That's an unexpected pleasure!

First of all, naturally Luna has some firmly held, deeply odd beliefs. Maybe she likes you to nibble on her left ear, but won't let you do the same to her right ear. "That's how Patagonian Ear Pixies fertilize their eggs," she says, as if you should already have known that.

Second, I can't help feeling that any attempt at kink would fall short, because she has no real feeling for what's supposed to be dirty or forbidden or any of that. You'd confess a dark desire and she'd shrug and say, "If you want to, but I got a bit bored with that in Patagonia. Not worth the cleanup."

*claps hands* EEEE. Yes, I totally agree with this. I have a somewhat hidden love of Luna due to celandineb writing me Luna/Neville fics for some years running. She's so interesting and if I'd been in Harry Potter fandom, I probably would have explored her character extensively. I find myself more drawn to the quirky side characters than the main characters.

This is not a subject that I have given any thought to at all. Nuh-uh, not at all.

OK. I have various ways I picture John's relationship history, but one picture that I rather like is the one where he's actually telling the truth as he understands it when he keeps saying, "I'm not gay."

Now, with women I see John as genuinely a terrific lover -- experienced and open-minded and quite good at sexual communication, the sort of person who makes his partners into better lovers. I'm also going to say that he's probably tried most of the things that a man can do with a woman (or two), so it's not that something like anal is going to throw him.

But going to bed with Sherlock (as one must, if one is John Watson) is in some ways going to pop him back to adolescence. He doesn't know how to interpret arousal signs in a male body. He doesn't know which acts another man might find politically or romantically loaded. He's got years of experience handling the female sexual response arc (no reason to delay making her come, because he knows how to get her there again even if she doesn't), but he's not accustomed to having two refractory periods in one bed.

I think he'd also have a straight guy's hangup about sex continuing even when not all the relevant cocks are erect.

Joe Dawson loves doing down on women. Lives for it. He would do it until the sun came up, make her breakfast, and then offer to go back to bed for some more. His hands are pretty good, too. And so while it's a little frustrating that he can't always maintain an erection (well, rarely can), he certainly hasn't had any woman leave him less than thoroughly satisfied.

One obvious hangup of Vetinari's is the likelihood that anyone who wants to have sex with him is actually trying to kill him. It would be funny if he employed the sexual equivalent of food tasters to test every potential partner out beforehand.

There's also the issue of the incredibly arcane calculations that would go into predicting how any given coupling would affect Ankh-Morpork.

In fact, Vetinari cares a lot more about the city than he would about any partner, however beloved. You could define him as Ankh-Morpork-sexual.

(That only makes me want to pair him with Carrot -- since in the ancient understanding the body of the rightful king is the state.)

I can't remember who I had this conversation with, but I do remember going over this ground before, so apologies if I'm repeating myself, but:

First, obviously Fraser is not going to have sex with anyone he isn't in love with.

Also, I can imagine Fraser having some sexual attitudes similar to those that a lot of us had in early adolescence -- where embraces and chaste kisses seem respectful, romantic, and loving, while anything remotely dirty seems disrespectful and unkind.

I can imagine someone (it's still Ray K. in my head) having a really good time tempting Fraser into getting dirty.
