Me: Should I ask why the baby doll's hands are tied behind her back? Or do I not want to know?
Kidlet: Oh, I just decided to handcuff her.
Me: OK. Why?
Kidlet: I wanted to see what she'd do.

Hee. How else you supposed to find out if your doll is prone to panic attacks?

Laughs happily. Well met.

Our son, age ten, wants to know why JKR doesn't just have Harry and Draco fall in love and work together. Seriously, I did NOT show him any fanfic. We were trying to explain without cracking up why that isn't likely to happen in mainstream fiction.

Of course, this is the same boy who last year declared after finishing the Buffy the Vampire series on DVD that he wanted to "date Spike" and well, big grin on his face, "Spike AND Buffy" if he could have two.

Huh, must be something about the age, because she's 7, too.

I would ask whether this predicted your being into bondage when you were an adult, but maybe that's another thing I don't want to know.

Ooh, I'm sure she'd adore that.

What are fairy cakes? Or is that something you can only know the answer to when your age is in single digits?

I asked her that today. She said, "She wasn't on, so she didn't do anything." (It's a battery-operated doll that cries and laughs, my father's gift and some sort of vengeance on us, I'm sure.) Then she said, "If it were a real baby, I'll bet she'd pull and pull and cry and cry."

Well, she was turned off so as not to drain her battery, so she didn't do anything. She's a microchip baby who sometimes laughs, and sometimes cries until you pat her back just right, so I actually wonder now whether she would react in some way to being tied up.

Well, the recipe I have is a fried dough thing - but very light and sweet and dusted with sugar. You have a regular skillet or pan, about a quarter inch of mildly flavoured oil, and you put a teaspoon of batter. It spreads a bit, sort of floats in the shallow oil and quickly turns golden; you flip it gently to finish. People used to leave them out for the fairies to avoid tricks and trials.

I am posting to let you know that I have been enjoying the bejeezus out of your writing!

I actually like Transfigurations better than JKR's books. I hope that will not turn the internet against me.

Thank you for sharing your work! Publish something one day, please.

Aww. This is sweet! I'm so glad you've enjoyed the stories.

I have so many HP WIPs and I don't know whether I'm going to be able to finish any of them! It's weird how sometimes you just walk off the edge of a fandom and can't seem to claw your way back on.
