December Daily: favorite fandom

Oh, absolutely, without hesitation -- Due South!
I had been playing around in Sentinel, but a leveling-up of my writing abilities happened almost immediately when I started writing Due South. (Cause and effect? I have no idea.)
I arrived after the Ray Wars had died down enough that it was fairly easy to avoid them by being careful who I associated with.
And the people I associated with! Most of my long-term fannish friendships date from that time, as do most of my long-term cases of fannish hero worship. (Many of those are the same people.)
And I had a lot of respect for the source material (not just the characters but a lot of what happened to them), which isn't always the case.
Then, too, this was a period when I didn't tend to find out a lot about the personal lives and opinions of the show creators, which definitely made the show more enjoyable to me!
When people do that meme where you characterize your fandoms as if they were ex-lovers, Due South is always the one where I broke it off to date a shady character and now look back and say, "I could have married you."
