OK, I injured myself cutting an ice cream cake. That has to be a new low. (And it was with the knife that I swore only to use for cake "because," I said, "no matter how many times I run it through the sharpener, it never gets sharp enough to cut meat.") So I'm typing w/right hand only while I elevate my left thumb.

The spouse said, very authoritatively, "Sit down. Elevate it. Put pressure on it. Don't stand up or look at it until this timer goes off in ten minutes." Later, when I stopped freaking out, I said, "Did you learn that on boy scouts?" and he said, "No. It's something I thought you would say."

The ice cream cake was shaped like an igloo. I spent more than an hour making it and I never even got to eat a piece.

The kidlet has 3 friends sleeping over, belatedly celebrating their 12th bday. Last time I looked downstairs, they were all on the Wii, dancing along to "Rah, Rah, Rasputin."

So: stitches or no?

Awww. I'm sorry about your cut. I'm impressed by your igloo cake. I just finished three batches of cupcakes for my kid's 8th birthday party tomorrow. No igloos.

I think this calls for someone, kid or not, to acquire cake for you later. I mean, really. Bodily injury doing something fun/nice for someone is supposed to mean some coddling.

Also, I think if we took the top two or three stupid injury stories from everyone on my flist/dwircle/etc, we could make a book. I mean, mine include the time I sneezed hard enough to tear my traps (whiplash), the time I cut up my hand (leaving a big ol' twisty scar) on a spray bottle, and the time I fell out of the bathtub, so.

I think you've just reinforced my longstanding belief that a sharp knife is a safe knife.

Except for, you know, when it's not. And I would think an ice cream cake would be slippery and potentially dangerous, frankly.

I have injured myself scooping ice cream before. Y'know. With a spoon. So don't feel too bad about this one!

The part about you not getting to eat any of it is as sad as the injury. It seems very wrong. How did it disappear so fast? It must have been very good.

I suspect this was advanced karmic punishment for allowing Boney-M into the house. *g*
Hope it heals up soon.

Ouch! stupid sharp things...

I guess what annoys me (and most likely you too by the telling of your story) is that after all these years of doing the usual/mundane tasks, we are still able to HURT ourselves!!

I mean, shouldn't there be a statute of limitations??? a moratorium on mayhem??? ::huffs::

[pats you & approves of spouse's brilliant observance of your awesomeness] =D

And a happy belated igloo caked birthday to your kidlet =)

Trying to carve a solid dark chocolate Easter bunny, here: 3 stitches. Not one of my better moments.

Seconding Florahart's notion for a Stupid Human Tricks on DW / LJ book. We could sell it to benefit the injured, providing typists for when we do this stuff right when major pieces of work are due (like theses.)

Also second the notion that someone should get you an igloo shaped cake - ice cream or not (or both) to compensate your sacrifice.

It totally does. I once burnt the palm of my hand by leaning on something I shouldn't have, but what really hurt was that it was marked "Caution: hot." In three languages. All of which I can read /o\

The cupcakes were a big hit! I made the chocolate mint ones from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World again, and all the little boys wanted them and told me I was cool. (Non-hydrogenated Earth Balance, messy confectioner's sugar and a lot of peppermint extract!)

Well, whether or not you ended up with stitches, knife cuts in places that actually see wear are an enormous pain, for sure, in more ways than one. I hope you heal quickly!

And I remember the kidlet being, what, two or three when we first met? So. I'll just be over in the denial corner, I think.
