If you read a vampire story (at least in fandom or other erotic-romance context), there's an implicit promise that there's gonna be some romantic/erotic blood-drinking. Even if it's not in the story, the story almost has to be in dialog with the possibility.

You're just waiting for that moment when the characters are snowed in or imprisoned or hiding out in a safehouse or otherwise miles from the nearest blood bank and by Day Three the vampire starts to look a little paler than usual and the human nervously says, "Um ... if you wanted ... I could ..."

What if the vampire genuinely wasn't into it, though? What if it was like, "No, hey, you're my friend, and actually I have a bit of a crush on you, and the last thing I want to do is think of you as a food source. Do *you* want to neck with a hamburger? Or like passionately kiss someone and then eat one of their fingers?"

What if it ended up being the story of a vampire having to be game for a kink he didn't share?

Have you ever read The Vampire Tapestry by Suzy McKee Charnas? If not, I won't spoil it for you (because it's well worth tracking down even if it is hard to get). But the vampire in question doesn't kiss during a sexual encounter because he uses his mouth for feeding.

I really like this idea. It could be really tender (the vamp is doing this thing that's just meh because it's important to the partner) or really funny or also really creepy (how much of what the vamp wants is he willing to sacrifice).

Lol, or maybe, like 'Can't; B-pos intolerant. Terrible gas; terrible. Bloating, farting. Oof, the smell. Better off desiccating, honestly, especially in a confined space like this. You wouldn't thank me, trust me. It once took an entire garrison to flush one B-pos lad through my system, and I try not to do massacres these days.'

Being virtually immortal gives you lots of time for therapy. Oh, that's something to ponder! Yet another vampire angle I hadn't considered before.

It's easy to do that, especially with older genre fiction, I think, due to how few people you have to talk to about the works.

There's a lot of half-remembered stuff that simmers in the back of my mind from when I was little, or a precocious pre-teen reader, that twinges when I run across something that dredges up the memory. Never th title, author, or name of the show or movie, oh no. Lines of dialogue or a scene, an obscure actor's face...gah! I've been haunted by a partial line of poetry for decades, too. So annoying! And yes, it did creep into things I used to try writing-hard to know if I was inspired or just recalling something, sometimes.

I liked The Vampire Tapestry because the author treated the vampire as a predator that we come to empathize with-or he with us, more accurately. Anne Rice turned the genre on its head with Interview with the Vampire & The Vampire Lestat, but then everyone else started turning out these tormented characters who were increasingly human until we ended up with the Anita Blake series &...yeah, no. Put the monster back in the vampire, sympathetic or not.

I'm trying to think of a kink that a vampire might indulge their human partner in. They'd have to be careful with any pain play that might injure either of them enough to trigger hunger in the vampire, possibly too dangerous. Breath play would be pointless for the vampire, and they might misjudge their strength & hurt the human. Depending on their age and culture, crossdressing might just remind them of their youth. #lol

Oh, now I just had an image of a fastidious, elegantly dressed, aged vamp being peed on by their sheepish lover. #lmao
