How it works:

Step One

- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

1. A no-frills website redesign. By no-frills I mean no frames and minimal graphics and a super-quick download for those of us who are on dial-up. (I very much like Basingstoke's page, for example.) But I would like mine to be better organized than it is now, easier to make sense of; to separate smutlets from real stories; and possibly to include an art page with thumbnails of all the cool art people have made me. Or, scanlations of manga by Naono Bohra (Boura?), Shiuko Kano, Kazusa Takashima, or Takakura Row. (I've already got some of these, so e-mail me if you've got some and I'll tell you if they're new to me or not.)

8. A KitchenAid food processor. A red one. (OK, no harm in asking.)

9. Some really excellent writer to write me the Harry/Snape story of my dreams: good characterization, lots and lots of really detailed sex, intimacy barriers high at the beginning and then falling with an appropriate level of difficulty, happy ending, no intentional-infliction-of-pain. Bonus points for the overcoming of believable aversions to ordinary touch, for believable virginity/lack of sexual experience, and for very verbal sex, if in character. (When I say believable, I mean staying away from "Don't touch me there! Uncle Vernon used to touch me there!")

Would you like my used copies of Oliver Twist and A Tale of Two Cities when my class is over in December? Oliver Twist I actually bought new, I think. A Tale of Two Cities was a copy obviously used by a high school student or a freshman - there's occasional highlighting in glitter pen and sometimes very funny notes written in the text. Perfectly readable, though.

Yeah, I'm beginning to gather that Christmas is not the best time to ask people to take on new story commitments. They just kind of growl at you.

I might be able to get that done. I have a good friend who is fluent, but there are two possibilities for error:

1. She might not do it ... ^^
2. Is it explicit? Because if so, she's kind of young, and I'm not sure I'd want to show it to her.

So don't *count* on it, but let me know if you can't possibly find anyone else. There isn't much else I can get for you on the list (the whole being broke thing, you know?)

Oh, I definitely wouldn't give "Nothing Without You" to someone who wasn't a hardcore yaoi fan. It's nothing but sex, really, plus I have a suspicion that it's incest, too. (Sometimes it's better not to know what's going on ...)

So thanks for the offer, but I wouldn't feel right about asking that of someone who wasn't already somewhat numbed to explicit m/m sex.

I'm broke, too, so I totally relate. I'm going from wishlist to wishlist in the vain hope that someone will need (1) something I already own and don't want any more or (2) some service that I can perform myself (tricky, as pretty much all I can do is write, type, and cook).

Civil War had some beautiful bits to it, but I read all the parts in one sitting, long after they were published, which is probably not the most enjoyable way to read it.

Ah ... alright, then, I don't think I'll scar the poor girl's eyes. I just introduced her to yaoi recently, and I don't want to scare her off. I'll ask around some of my more jaded friends, though. Maybe one of them speaks Japanese... (if only it were in Cantonese ... more than half of my friends would be jumping at the opportunity to do it, then. ><)

It is fun when I can get dump offer books to folks! And we get a lot of cool books in that I end up taking home. But alas, it leaves me little time to actually read the things! Our store is actually 3/4 comics and related stuff and 1/4 used books.

No bookstore cat--we're worried a cat would get out and the store is on a busy street. I've always wondered how other bookstores handle that one...

Being a Japanese studies major (and also quite jaded), I might be able to help you with the yaoi. I've studied japanese on and off for some three years, and I have a little experience with translating. This would be a "creative" translation, though. I dunno, maybe you don't need help with that anymore.
