Certain ones are canon, though. In Book III we have Draco with --
"God, this place is going to the dogs," said Malfoy loudly. "That oaf
teaching classes, my father'll have a fit when I tell him

and Snape uses "damn" quite a lot.

also: I'm so excited to read this fiiiiiiiiic. *is anxious*

Like everyone else, *very much* looking forward to this!

And I love having a little peek into the process -- very interesting.

Interesting. I didn't notice that. (I find it still sounds out of character to me when I imagine it in the mouth of my grown-up Draco, though.)

and Snape uses "damn" quite a lot.

[laughing] I hardly even consider "damn" to be swearing. My main first-draft swearing problem is the use of "fucking" as an all-purpose intensifier.

Out of curiosity, what do you consider OOC muggle swearing by pureblood characters?
-shrug- Now I feel the need to go back and beta whatever it may be out of my writing. Heh.

I was nattering on about this here (http://resonant8.livejournal.com/5408.html) and here. (http://resonant8.livejournal.com/5977.html) Basically I don't find it very likely that a person who was raised among wizards would be using Muggle-style blasphemies (like "Oh, god, yes" or "Christ, that hurts" or whatever), but I find the all-purpose "Merlin" annoying, so I've been struggling to find alternatives.

Fortunately most of the important characters in "Transfigurations" are either Muggle-raised (Harry and Hermione) or polite sorts who don't do a lot of swearing (McGonagall and Lupin). So I'm not really struggling with anybody but Draco, but he's really putting me through the wringer.
