How to explain this. When [livejournal.com profile] astolat was writing A Beautiful Lifetime Event, I got to read it in bits and pieces as it was in progress, and then I'd go away and think about it all the next day. And because I'm terribly shallow, what I was thinking about, of course, was what it would be like when Rodney and John finally had sex. And I thought about it until I had a whole scene in my head, and then I wrote it down.

And of course the way she did it was marvelous, perfect, needing no help whatsoever from me -- but if you had the urge to spend a little longer in that universe, you could read mine.

Definitely read hers first, or mine will make no sense. But I didn't really need to tell you that, did I?

In general, this was sweet and hot and great. I love that you wrote fanfiction for fanfiction.

"Well." Rodney clasped his hands in front of him. His hair had comb tracks in it. It made John's throat hurt.

Oh dear god. *strangled cry* That kind of detail always kills me. KILLS me.

You know, I feel so inadequate giving feedback on SGA at the moment--and I'm realizing, because I'm writing an offbeat pairing right now--that the feedback of people who don't know the show or characters seems a bit off to me at times. *Welcome*, very welcome, and yet, I'm often wondering, how can they *really* appreciate my nuances (pause for trumpets of ego) if they don't know the show or actors' gestures and voices and so on?

So I'm thinking that maybe my feedback is kind of lame, but I do console myself that I've seen 2-3(ish) episodes and maybe this helps my credibility as a squeer (er, squee-r) just a little.

I blather. I'm going to go finish reading your story now. *g*

I've only seen up through "The Storm" myself -- still finding my way to the characters. (I find that it helps to strip them.)

And whatever you may or may not know about the canon, you certainly know from sexy, so I'm taking your feedback very seriously.

because I'm writing an offbeat pairing right now

You're writing it? Really? Wow. [is very very ineffably happy]

and John licked his jaw against the grain and groaned and said, "Next time you're not shaving," and Rodney dropped his forehead on John's shoulder and said, "Oh."

Oh my god.

t. That put John in a good spot close to one of Rodney's nipples, and he poked it with his tongue to make it stand up, and then plucked it with his lips, and then sucked it a little, wet and soft-tongued.

Oh my GOD.

N'awwwwww. I love the -- the practicality in the arrangement, that they want the family happy and stable, because somehow I figure a lot of Rodney and John's decisions revolve around keeping people as happy and stable and safe as they can. I'm just glad this command decision resulted in soft-eyed Rodney and stubble-fan John.

Yes! You've got it exactly! In this universe I think they're consistently making decisions that put sex a very distant second to family stability, and it's just a thrill to give them both.

This is wonderful. I love their voices throughout every part of this; the vulnerability ("comb tracks" killed me), their competitive natures, and their studied nonchalance at the end -- all are completely in character. And the strength of the affection and the bond between them is so evident here and in [livejournal.com profile] astolat's original tale; I adore that aspect of both pieces.

As usual, I'm mostly incoherent after reading something you've written. Everyone else has pointed up all the incredible *wibble* moments (the careful shaving, and the comb tracks, and the tucked shirt, and...*wibble*), so I'm going for the guh moments that just gutted me the most:

Oh, god, that was -- He was -- John had made him --
and
"Too much, oh, too late," and he pushed John painfully against the wall and grunted into the side of his face -- coming, god, he was coming -- shit, he was coming and John couldn't see it or taste it or feel it, really, except in the wild pounding of his heart against John's chest and the broken way he was whispering John's name.

"Next time," John whispered fiercely

Oh yeah. Because that's like the *wibble*, only with the *guh*, too. So perfect.

I don't really read in SGA (yet), but I did read A Beautiful Lifetime Event and was thrilled to get to spend some more time in that universe! What a great scene; thanks for sharing.

Favourite line: His eyes were soft; some tension was gone now that had been so habitual that John had never noticed it at all.

I could feel myself relax as I read it, any residual tension vanishing!

Thank you so much for the link to 'A Beautiful Lifetime Event' - I hadn't even realised that Shallot had an LJ, nor that she was writing so much McKay/Sheppard.

Your ficlet was gorgeous, the icing on the cake to a wonderfully sweet tale. This made me go 'Awwww' - "You don't have to, you don't, if you don't want to," he whispered, "but, oh, John, please, please --"

I think I have another pairing to add to my list of loves :-)

You know, I stopped reading any other comments a while ago, because then I'd probably not say anything myself, but feel free to tell me to read the other comments, erm. You finally made me go and read Shalott's fic, which I'd had saved all this time, and then you go and make it worse, that pain in my hear which makes me explode with longing and love and makes my throat hurt. His hair had comb tracks in it. It made John's throat hurt.

And I keep swallowing when it hurts John to hear Rodney beg, and I notice I am smiling at their literal pillow-talk, and my heart (or stomach, as I am sure Rodney would agree, it being the more sensitive organ and connected directly to our emotions) is still jumping and hurting when they've already spent themselves three times. I am all shagged out after having read first [livejournal.com profile] astalot's and now your love story, so I will spare you further rambling and just rec you again. Because you do something to me.
