Some music for Mother's Day
May. 11th, 2007 09:44 pmI used to think it was creepy when people would wish a happy Mother's Day to people who weren't their mothers. Then the Tech Goddess explained it to me. "I think everybody owes me a Mother's Day greeting," she said. "It's like Veterans' Day."
So happy mother's day to all of you who are mothers, have mothers, have lost mothers, or otherwise.
First I have a really bad mother:
Willie's Lady by Graham & Eileen Pratt, from Borders Of The Ocean. (This one requires a little glossary: be lighter=give birth. Also, I'm told the Belly Blind is a household spirit like a brownie.)
Then I have a good mother:
Good Mother by Jann Arden, from Living Under June. She says, "Be yourself," of course.
Then I have the earth as mother:
Gentle Arms of Eden by Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer, from Drum Hat Buddha. I love this because it's an evolution-compliant creation myth.
And finally I have God as mother, in a song I mostly can't listen to because it makes me cry:
This Is To Mother You by Sinead O'Connor, from Gospel Oak.

Date: 5/13/07 03:02 am (UTC)I love that Irishy way she says "mother". It makes me almost want to cry too. Did you know that there's also a version by Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt?
Thanks

Plus also the Bee Gees song, in case I'm not the only one who thinks it's awesome. :)
