Most people name their LJ filters in a pretty straightforward way: by fandom, say, or one for communities and another for individuals. But some people get creative.

I myself have one filter called "art_only" and another called "commsrecs," but the rest of the journals I read are broken up in a way that makes sense only to me, and named accordingly.

If someone comes to my site from an LJ filter, I can see the name of the filter in my stat counter. So I've made a collection of the ones that amuse me:

cabal
no_drama
nonapod
schnell
everyone_but_you
workingnow
if_you_must
noicons
larkin
extra-crunchy time crunch
playground
borderline_rl_peeps
sanity_protection

Also, once I got two hits side by side, one from a filter called "communities" and another from a filter called "no_communities."

I'm proudest of the no_drama one. I've never really had life goals, but if I did, one of them would be to be on everyone's no_drama list.

Henh. My fave filter names of my own are 'little magic box', 'tight', and 'Non-Con'. I like to think of the positive impression it must give ppl of me when they see them. :)

I didn't know other people could see the filter names! I'm glad mine are all innocuous. Although I agree, the no_drama one is clearly a high compliment. *g*

Wow, I didn't know that it was possible to see filter names, either! Luckily mine are all very innocuous, though now I kind of want to rename them things like "crazy-ass crack hoz."

Is that you? I've been writing these down for months, and I didn't write down the username with them. "Playground" is very clever.

"schnell" is not quite as amusing to me (it's German for "fast"), but

extra-crunchy time crunch
borderline_rl_peeps
sanity_protection

are cool. :)

I have a similar "no pics" filter. I have a couple of people on my list who post/posted beautiful but HUGE pics that would make my pathetically small monitor cry. I now have a huge-ass monitor and they don't post huge pics anymore so I rarely use it.

Oh dear. People can read those? Can people *not* on the damn sanity_protection filter read them? Because the drama would kinda defeat the purpose of the filter in the first place.

(and yep, you should take it as a compliment!)

Well, here's how I found them. My stat counter tells me where each hit comes from. So if you're reading along off of a filter, and you click on one of my stories, my counter will read that as a hit from, you know, you.livejournal.com/friends/the_only_ones_i_really_like.

So, hypothetically, if I weren't on the_only_ones_i_really_like filter, and someone who was on the filter posted a link to one of my stories, and you clicked on it, then I could see that you clicked from that filter.

Of course, this depends on me being vain enough to haunt my site statistics. Not every writer even bothers to have a stat counter.

But this is why my filters mostly have mysterious names.

I found out I was on a filter called "medicated". And of course, if you post a picture from your webspace, you'll get hits from everybody's filters, regardless of whether they click on any links or not!

Hahaha, crunchy! My filters are terribly boring. They say things like "people" and "fandom" and "misc" because everybody needs a misc box. Actually I should rearrange them because I usually read them in the same groups of four (apart from people) so really I just have too many filters.
