Sorry. This is the time of year when I post 65% more random pointlessness.

Meat bought and set on a rack in the fridge to dry-age: Check.

Herb butter mixed and put in the fridge: Check.

Cranberry chutney made: Check.

Nothing else to do for Christmas dinner until Monday, when I make a Key lime pie and do pretty much the entire meal's worth of peeling and chopping.

Also, joy! I just got an e-mail from Amazon telling me that my brand-new red KitchenAid Artisan mixer has shipped! My poor old Classic has given me great service for fifteen years -- and it wasn't new when I got it, either -- but lately it has developed an ominous buzzing sound, and the only people in town who would even look at it told me bluntly, "Seventy-five dollars an hour for labor -- you're going to find it more economical to buy a new one." So Amazon had free shipping and a better price than any of the local places, and I had Christmas money, and voila!

It won't be here in time to whip the cream for Christmas, but it should be here in time to make an igloo cake for the kidlet's birthday.

Ooooooh new Kitchen Aid mixer, yay. I've had mine (the regular one) about 10 years and it's definitely starting to seem less than peppy. They're such a fantastic kitchen appliance, they really are. :-)

I couldn't believe how much cheaper Amazon was. $199 for an Artisan! You can't get a Classic around here for less than $250.

That is an excellent cake! Also, yay, new mixer. Mine is still going strong, nearly 8 years after I got it.

I'm quite sure the cake isn't going to look that cute when I make it, but luckily (1) kids aren't picky where sugar is concerned and (2) with this design you can just cover everything with frosting.

Red. Kitchen. Aid. Artisan.

*green with envy*

:D I adore my white standard Kitchen Aid but I've seen those new red ones. It's Kitchen Aid with SEX.

You'll have to post pics!

I've seen pictures of KitchenAids with flame decals, like custom cars. That would be cool.

LOL!!! You'd also need to install a deep blue LED under the engine behind the beater attachment, so that it could glow blue like pimped out lowered cars :D

Oh, that would be so cool.

I've seen pictures of faucets with blue and red LEDs to turn the water different colors. That would be cool, too. Pimp My Kitchen.

Yay for Kitchenaid!! My sexy blue one from last xmas sits happily on the end of the counter and receives *much* love.

Oh, the igloo cake! I *want*! but. where the heck do you *buy* marzipan penguins?!?! LOL That Martha, she's always made everything look and sound so reasonable - until you try to duplicate it.

There's a separate linked recipe for how to make them (basically just marzipan and food colouring). I'm reeling at the work involved in the whole project.

The kidlet insists on making her own penguins. Which is absolutely fine by me.

I'm so sorry I didn't get back to you about the banoffee cheesecake. My internet connection has been spotty at best lately. Would you still like the recipe, or did you decide in favour of some other dessert?

Thanks -- we went with apple crisp, which turned out to be pretty good, if a little soggy.
