Friends and assorted creatures, what should I do for my birthday?

We're having an event for the spouse's birthday next week -- not a party, per se, but at least something that involves a gathering of people who don't live with us in our house -- which frankly uses up my never-very-copious supply of extroversion for at least a month.

I'm sure the spouse and the kidlet will put together anything I ask them for. I'm torn between wanting to be pampered and wanting to be left in splendid solitude.
