Today I went down to the Democratic headquarters to get some Kerry and Obama yard signs. (When I first called for signs, they were all out. I don't know if this means the candidates are popular or the Democrats are disorganized, but I'm afraid the latter sounds more likely.)

Up the street from me is a house that has about twelve yard signs. For several local races, they have signs for both candidates. I mentioned this to the woman working in the office, and she immediately said, "Oh, on Sheridan? I've seen that one. It's probably a married couple that can't agree."

"When I was married," she went on, "I put a Dukakis sign out in the yard. And every morning my ex-husband would walk out the door, yank the sign up, fling it across the yard, get in his car, and go to work. And as soon as his car was out of sight, I'd go out and put it back. It got to the point where the lawn was so full of holes that the sign wouldn't stand up no matter where you put it."

I am so jealous of you. I wish I still lived in Illinois so that I could vote for Barack and help him thoroughly spank Keyes. (I can't wait to see those numbers. Do people even take him seriously?)

I saw a house, too, that had a Bush sign sitting next to a Kerry sign. I wouldn't want to be a member of that household!

A local lawyer I know of, though, has a sign for both the Democrat and Independent candidates running for County Prosecutor. He's just covering both of his bases since he'll have to work with whoever wins, and I just find that distasteful. Make a stand, man.

If we had yard signs up, that would be Chez Mudd.

We subscribe to the O'Callahan family (Mudd's ancestors) motto:
Sell whiskey to BOTH sides.

/wonders what someone's yard would look like over here with John Howard or Mark Latham signs out front

You guys impress me - you all get so into it! We have an election here in 3 or 4 days and one'd barely know about it.

Ha! Roomie and I have a standing policy here. No signs on the lawn. We'd have both Bush and Kerry otherwise. No bumper stickers on his company car, and mine has the everpopular Republicans for Voldemort. He laughs at mine but he has a Bush button in the front of his company car viewable from the front windshield.

My flatmate has been going out at night, stealing Liberal and Family First signs. I suppose I could get an ALP sign and make your wish come true...

I'm involved in the local Dem party and we can't keep yard signs in our office. They disappear so fast that as soon as one order arrives, it's gone.

It's not disorganization, it's high demand.

Res, I've been working with our local Dem groups. email me offlist, I can probably send you a sign -- the plastic slip-cover, you'll have to find a wire frame.

There's no way I could make love to somebody who'd vote for Bush. It wouldn't be separate yard signs, it'd be separate yards!

I've seen a few around my local area, but they are John Howard and Liberal signs. Urk. I'm very tempted to rip them up, however, I realise that it is a free country and it is their choice to be stupid

They were probably out of Kerry signs because I was hoarding them. XD That's not TOO likely, though. I only had around twenty posted around my house... and my brother's dorm, of course.

That story cracked me up, but it's a bit sad that they can't agree. Oh well.

And no, you probably don't remember me, but that's alright. I'm the one who knows all the artists. The raving fan, you know? Oh, nevermind.

I can't see how they possibly could. But I do see the occasional yard sign for him. I suppose some people are sufficiently conservative nutcase that they'd like to see an intelligent, inspiring liberal beaten by a conservative whackjob.

Some college students around here were recently caught taking down Bush signs. Which made me sigh -- yeah, great, now the left is taking it upon itself to decide what we can and can't read.

Oh, they did get a couple of signs in for me eventually. I just had to wait till they received their re-order, and then they had to hide them in the back room for me so nobody would take them before I picked them up.

Yeah, it was kind of sad. I would have trouble being married to someone who disagreed with me on a political issue this fundamental, but it would be worse still to be married to someone who would actually take out a sign I put up, as opposed to just putting up his own opposing sign and leaving it at that.

When she told me the story, I said, "Well, it's easy to see where that marriage was going, isn't it?" And she looked at me like that was a surprising thing to say.

Oh, and, yeah, I can't see sharing a bed with a Bush fan. If nothing else, it's my opinion that anti-choice people shouldn't get to have sex except when they're trying to conceive children.

It doesn't surprise me. I like it when relationships have a diversity of opinions, it gives one a different perspective on a lot of things. For example, my girlfriend is quite different from myself (and most of my friends) in many aspects. We disagree sometimes politically and morally, but I would never think of denying her her views like that woman's husband was doing with the sign.

♥ Loving the icon. XD

Yeah, I wasn't impressed either. The flatmate and I had a good old screaming match about it.

now the left is taking it upon itself to decide what we can and can't read.

Do you have International Socialist and Left Alliance clubs on your campuses? They're all over Australian universities, and restricting access to reading material -- or, more properly, stealing the erotic fiction from the campus bookstore -- is one of their hobbies. *headdesk*

You're kinder than I. I don't think they should have sex. Period. It lowers the IQ of the gene pool...
