Today I went down to the Democratic headquarters to get some Kerry and Obama yard signs. (When I first called for signs, they were all out. I don't know if this means the candidates are popular or the Democrats are disorganized, but I'm afraid the latter sounds more likely.)

Up the street from me is a house that has about twelve yard signs. For several local races, they have signs for both candidates. I mentioned this to the woman working in the office, and she immediately said, "Oh, on Sheridan? I've seen that one. It's probably a married couple that can't agree."

"When I was married," she went on, "I put a Dukakis sign out in the yard. And every morning my ex-husband would walk out the door, yank the sign up, fling it across the yard, get in his car, and go to work. And as soon as his car was out of sight, I'd go out and put it back. It got to the point where the lawn was so full of holes that the sign wouldn't stand up no matter where you put it."

They were probably out of Kerry signs because I was hoarding them. XD That's not TOO likely, though. I only had around twenty posted around my house... and my brother's dorm, of course.

That story cracked me up, but it's a bit sad that they can't agree. Oh well.

And no, you probably don't remember me, but that's alright. I'm the one who knows all the artists. The raving fan, you know? Oh, nevermind.

Yeah, it was kind of sad. I would have trouble being married to someone who disagreed with me on a political issue this fundamental, but it would be worse still to be married to someone who would actually take out a sign I put up, as opposed to just putting up his own opposing sign and leaving it at that.

When she told me the story, I said, "Well, it's easy to see where that marriage was going, isn't it?" And she looked at me like that was a surprising thing to say.

It doesn't surprise me. I like it when relationships have a diversity of opinions, it gives one a different perspective on a lot of things. For example, my girlfriend is quite different from myself (and most of my friends) in many aspects. We disagree sometimes politically and morally, but I would never think of denying her her views like that woman's husband was doing with the sign.

♥ Loving the icon. XD
