There are tons of requests on the AO3 announcement and the response is repeatedly "we are planning to change it" :) So no, it's not possible at the moment...
Thanks for this info. I wouldn't mind the HTML mail so much if it didn't have giant images in it (giant-er on my phone, alas). I'm kinda stunned that they thought that a switch to HTML mail would have any useful point at all, honestly, not to mention that people would want the option to turn it off.
Is it possible for you to set up your email account to make your emails plain text? For the moment, that's the workaround they've suggested. I believe it's not an option in gmail.
I love plain text for DW and LJ emails. I prefer plain text for other services too because they usually tend to advertise other features of theirs which I really don't care for.
But I actually like the new look for AO3 emails because this version is clearer to me. Example, if an author posted several new stories and posted one story out of date, then it was difficult for me to read all the info.
But! I'd like the option to switch to plain text from html and back. Not giving that option was a definite oversight on their part.
It is a teeny bit doable on gmail, message by message. From the dropdown menu (next to the reply button) go down the options. When you get to "message text garbled?" click on that and you'll see the plain text. This is not a great solution, obviously, but if you are desparate.
I don't care about the kudos one myself (just, eh, whatever), but do care that subscriptions have (minimally, but relevant to me) lost functionality (they no longer say chapter, like, 6 of 7 or whatever). Argh.
I was just going to ask, does anybody know how to go back to receiving comments on stories instead of mouse clickies, or do I need a time machine set for 2006 for that?
