So I dreamed that there was a war -- not a war within the magical community, but a war on magic from somewhere outside the community.

There was an in-between world between wizards and muggles called the withyau (three syllables: WITH-ee-aw, and the th is soft), which included people sympathetic to magic.

So far this has all sounded rather interestingly fictional, but the whole thing reveals its silly roots when I tell you that the withyau explicitly included fanfic writers.

There were two wizards, former lovers who had been apart for a while and were now back together, and as they were undressing, the younger one kept finding marks on the older one's body -- something between burns and tattoos.

He pointed to one and asked what it was, and the older wizard told him, "You remember when Boldbald was tortured for her stories?"

The younger one said, with a mixture of anger and fondness, "Are you going to take on the scar every time someone from the withyau is tortured, then?"

It was understood that the person who takes the scar takes the pain as well. The older one didn't answer, which of course meant yes.
