OK, I've almost got the DVD track for "Transfigurations" finished. I'm checking with [livejournal.com profile] julad to see if she has anything to add.

Now I'm starting on "The Teeth of the Hydra," and I'm kind of stymied. With "Transfigurations" it was pretty easy to come up with things to add -- not only did I have tons of deleted material, but I could also explain all the magical creatures and give the sources for all the spells and the names and such.

With "Hydra," though, there's no worldbuilding to explain, and I already published the deleted sex scene. I mean, there are a few little notes about the research, and I suppose I could always compile a soundtrack ...

Those of you who requested a track on "Hydra" -- is there something in particular that you'd like explained?

I can think of a couple of things to start with, which hopefully they'll generate nice long responses (*g*):

  • How did you decide to put the story together the way you did, jumping back and forth between the past and the present?

  • You once told me that the soundtrack is not necessarily your soundtrack, and I've wondered since then why and how you decided to include the songs and bands you did. Did you send yourself to a school of rock? Choose by lottery the suggestions of your betas? Decide by listening which music worked for Ray?

mmm, what you were thinking about as you wrote/brainstormed a particular part, perhaps?

While my first reaction was of course "Dude, talk about the *music*," because that's always what I think about on hearing the name of the story...ummm...actually, talk about the music please. And why you chose to code the tats as rape, and the implications of that, as well as...hmm, maybe a little expansion on the motivations behind them? And just how much is the discussion of David Bowie supposed to be about Ray? And...Mike Levine. I want to hear about him. And that moment when Ray finds out that (seemingly) everyone's known forever except him and kind of freaks. Also, how did you choose the individual personalities for the victims, beyond just making each one intrinsically *different* from the others and having their reactions follow accordingly?

Umm...yes. Does that help at all?

Wow. Those are interesting questions.

I should have the Hydra DVD posted sometime next week -- I don't think I've got answers to them all, but they really helped me get going. So thanks!
