So far 40 doesn't feel that differently from 39. I have to tell you, though: I think my generation is getting much better midlife crises than my parents' generation did. I'm writing a novel; my cousin is going back to school to study marine biology; my best friend is going to try her hand at illustration. Much more fun than an affair or an expensive sports car.
I had a good birthday, except for the part where my kid gave me the gift of a cold, and the cold virus invited its bacteria friends over to colonize my sinuses. I think the person who developed antibiotics should be canonized.
The three-dimensional haul was pretty good -- two books, some money for the iPod fund, a waffle iron that looks like a robot, and no sweaters from the in-laws so far -- but what I'm really excited about are my fannish gifts:
Switchknife wrote me a story!A lovely wartime Harry/Snape, full of dreams and danger and just enough hope to make me happy all over.
And! Duckpuppy drew me Transfigurations!Draco! Just see if you can look at him and not want to help him unbutton that white shirt the rest of the way down!

Date: 5/19/04 08:01 pm (UTC)Yeah, I don't get the appeal of the minis, unless people have both a mini and a full-sized one, in which case I say they ought to give one of them to me.

Date: 5/19/04 08:06 pm (UTC)I'm loving the birthday greetings so much, it makes me feel bad that I don't do better at remembering everybody else's birthday.
