Romans, countrymen, LJ friends

I've been following the "write a message to each person on your Friends list" trend with interest, but apparently everybody else's Friends list represents a much greater variety of relationships than mine does.

I won't be making a list, because everybody on my Friends list falls into (at least) one of these categories:

You are actually a friend, or at least a colleague.

I love your writing and feel that I must know the instant you post a story or snippet.

I loved your writing when you were writing in fandoms I cared about, and I'm keeping track of you in case you decide to return to writing in fandoms I care about. (Or in case I decide to care about fandoms you write in.)

You're a DS slasher, and I friended you as an act of fandom solidarity.

You're an HP slasher, and I friended you as part of my ongoing effort to figure out the fandom.

I have no idea who you are or how I found you, but your journal is very interesting.

I have no idea who you are, but you friended me in the early days when I was friending everybody back. I don't do that any more, but as long as you don't put up eight hundred posts a day, I have no reason to take you off my list.

My study of the HP fandom is based on the touching faith that if I have a hundred and fifty different views of chaos, eventually they'll evaluate down to clarity. If this isn't true, please don't tell me.
