"Look at the baby. She's dreaming about smart ballerinas and powerful businesswomen."

---

Sign on a jar of tea at the coffee shop: "It's me! Decaf orange cinnamon!"

----

"The more electronics they get, the more monstrous they become."

---

And from a coffee shop worker who has another job at a bar: "The rest of the nights, the guys have to wear ties, but not on Country Night. Because there are a lot of bar fights on Country Night, and the first thing the guys do when a fight breaks out is to take off their ties."

---

"Holy Mary mother of cinnamon rolls!"

---

"Nobody's going to *die.* You don't have game shows where people *die.*"

---

At the Fair:

"Look. That booth is selling 'Freedom Fries.' "

"Well, when you look at things on a cosmic scale, we're really very close to primordial slime. So you shouldn't be surprised."

"Nobody's going to *die.* You don't have game shows where people *die.*"

...And ain't that a shame?

Seriously, I friended you because you're a helluva writer, but I kept you friended because I love those "overheard" things you post (and, yeah, because you're a helluva writer).

Did the baby cry? Those are my nightmares. At my last job I met some smart ballerinas (trying to steal my job) and lots of powerful businesswomen (*scared now*).

I love these quotations, but I have to know where you heard "Look at the baby. She's dreaming about smart ballerinas and powerful businesswomen."

Actual call to an "Ask the Doctor" type of show:

"I want to know what these are...I have these small, bug-like creatures in my hair but they can't be lice because I don't have children."

Yesterday, the nice man at the car wash gave me this giant condom to put on my rear windscreen wiper....

Does this count? :~)

Decaf orange cinnamon!

Yum! What store sells this? I can't have caffeine and I love flavored tea.

I would order the "It's me! Decaf orange cinnamon!" for the same reason I almost bought the Dodge Neon because of its "Hi!" ad campaign. There's just something so charming about friendly products.

I love that. I may have to put it on an icon. And the one about electronics just screams McKay to me.

Aww. You're sweet!

(And also reassuring; I like reading weird things about people's lives, in nice short low-attention-span-o-vision, but I'm never sure whether other people enjoy them or just roll their eyes and scroll. Which would be OK, too, of course.)

Hee! The baby was three weeks old and not really yet gathering nightmare material.

Ballerinas tried to steal your job, though? That sounds like a story.

That one was this morning. There wasn't really a context for it -- the two women were there, one with her baby and the other with her toddler son, and the toddler's mother said it sort of out of nowhere -- but from what I gleaned from the rest of her conversation, I'd say she was trying to say nice things about the future that a girl baby might be dreaming of.

Oh, man. I thought that kind of dumb was only in the movies.

I should have known better, though, since there was a girl in my college dorm who literally thought she couldn't be out of money because she still had checks.

I'm trying to get my town name out of the journal (somebody from town friended me and I began to panic), but it's a byword for Bovine Middle America.

On the other hand, if you came here, I'd have somebody to talk to that I wasn't married to and didn't give birth to, so. Good for me, bad for you, I'd say.

A literal condom? Or something that functions as ... wait, how would something function as a condom for a windshield wiper? I am mystified.

Actually I'm pretty sure that either Bigelow or Celestial Seasonings has a decaf/herbal orange cinnamon.

The other teas are all very businesslike. "Thai Lemon," etc. I should ask the counterdude for the story behind this one's effort to reach out.

Wow, that's nice of you to offer but it's okay. Maybe I'll try to find the other ones in the new grocery store that's coming here soon. (Yay Wegman's!!)

Btw, I spent the evening rereading your fic. I got sucked in because I had been jonsing for the slavefic story with the forehead vegetable dye thing and it turned out to be yours.

I wanted to say that, as much as I completely adore Lifetime Event, I always have to make a conscious effort to get over that they could be together 6 years before they get the idea to have sex together. I found your version to be much more logical.

You know, it is a story. She was cool and clever, but of course also very determined. She'd have to be, she'd overcome a severe injury and danced again, but she was getting older and needed to find another area to work in. Mine surely tempted her. She also thought of becoming a novelist though. But really, the worrying part is when the people you are supposed to support want to steal your livelyhood!
