Broken tooth, insane solitude deprivation, plagiarism, and the general state of the Res.

1. Well. I broke a tooth a couple of weeks ago, doing nothing more out of the ordinary than eating lunch at Taco Bell. My right bicuspid. Went to the dentist today thinking I was going to walk out with a temporary crown, and instead walked out with a half-ground tooth and the name of a guy who specializes in root canals.

No, I don't even have an appointment for a root canal. I have an appointment for a consultation about a root canal, after which I will have the actual root canal two weeks later, followed by two appointments at three-week intervals to get the crown, damn it, which puts me at almost Halloween before they're done working with my mouth.

I should look at the bright side. Right now it doesn't hurt at all -- even if I swish icewater over it. And my father has had three root canals and insists that they don't hurt as much as getting a cavity filled. (Of course, my father also quit smoking in three days, so he could be described as atypical, but I'll take my bright sides where I can.)

2. You know how some people say they're married to their jobs? I never intended for this job to be anything more than a temporary fling, and it is getting way too serious. It wants me to go to its best friend's wedding. It is pressuring me to meet its parents.

Linda, the nutty boss, hired two people to fill the job permanently, and naturally I thought she'd be done with me at that point, but she seems to think that she's going to continue to need all of us. Gah.

Part of me thinks I shouldn't complain. It's such easy work that I usually take along a library book; yesterday I got through half of Ernest Jones' On the Nightmare. Well, but while I can read, I can't write. Since finishing Higher Education, I've poked around at a few long-term projects, fleshing out characters and trying to solve plot problems, but I haven't written anything at all.

3. It doesn't help that the kidlet's summer school ended the 12th, and they don't start first grade till Friday, so they're bored in the afternoons. Unless I take them to the pool, in which case I'm bored. Kidlet duty is like work, in that I can read while I'm doing it, but I can't write.

4. This is typical of kidlet's school, which is run by people who are sweet but vague: I hear through the parent grapevine that classes have moved to another location, but I have yet to hear that from any official source, nor can I reach any of the official sources by phone. Guess we'll just show up for orientation at the place where the parent grapevine says they'll be, and if they're not there ... um, since the public schools started a week and a half ago, and they're six and thus officially truant, I suppose we're, uh, homeschooling them. Yeah, that.

4. Darling Rickie took down "Gravity Works," but [livejournal.com profile] robriki points out that she has another story that incorporates slivers of Transfigurations. I've reported that one to ffn, too. I still can't bear to read the rest of her stories, so I have no idea whether there's more of my stuff in them or not.
