Five songs that would be much improved if you switched the gender of the vocalist.

Bonnie Raitt, "Love Me Like a Man"
Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, "Lady Willpower" (can't you hear Melissa Etheridge singing this?)
Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose, "Treat Her Like a Lady" (If you fail ... to do this ... don't blame her if she looks my way-uh.)
Marcie Blane, "(I Wanna Be) Bobby's Girl" (it's twisted either way, so why not go all the way?)
Elton John, "I Want To Kiss the Bride"

Oh, thanks, but I can't do torrents -- connection's way too slow. Or, I mean, I can do them, but not if I want to do anything else whatsoever. But thanks for the offer!

How's the big project going? Or are you at a stage where that's an unkind question to ask?

*nods* Anytime (if you change your mind or connection).

No, it's the opposite of unkind! Ever since I went public and officially worked on it, I heavily depend on people prodding and commenting. I was going to friend you for a day, but it's really too much to read up, so the shortest summary: she still has not read it, and today is the last day before she goes on holidays and it needs to be done (incl. bound) by the time she comes back. All the work I did in the meantime still doesn't make it anything like finished since I never heard a word of feedback, which in this case is of course vital. So, suckage and schtuff *shrugs*

Melissa Etheridge covering Rod Stewart's "Maggie Mae" is one of the coolest things I've ever heard.

Wow, that does sound cool. Though I worked for ten years in a building where they piped Lite Rock through the PA all day long, and they played Maggie Mae at least once a day for the entire decade, so I'm not sure I'd volunteer to hear it again ...

And one song where the gender needs to stay exactly where it is: Bohemian Like You by the Dandy Warhols.

Because he is *so* singing to another guy, and it is sly and playful and sure of itself and yum.

I totally picture it being another guy. What's more, being another guy who looks exactly like him.

When I heard the remake of 'Jolene' by the White Stripes, it was like: dude, slash! Which is not to say I don't dig the original (in fact, I think technically it's a better song-- far more emotionally engaging), but the remake has... a certain novel kind of appeal *g*. The bitch stole his boyfriend! Hee.
