Favorite REM song: "Shiny Happy People." I love it so much that sometimes it makes me cry a little. This is not a happy song by someone who thinks happiness is easy.
Favorite U2 song: The only U2 song that doesn't immediately send me groping for the radio tuner is "Mysterious Ways."
Favorite Police song: "Canary in a Coal Mine."
Favorite Driving song: "Call Me Al," Paul Simon.
Favorite Sing-Along song: I like bluegrass for singing along, because I can make up a high harmony as I go along, and because mostly the singers' voices are even more quavery than mine.
Artist who has never done a thing I won't listen to: Paul Simon. (All right, I won't listen to "Pigs, Sheep, and Wolves," but other than that.)
Artist who just needs to stop and go AWAY: Phil Collins.
Song that I love because of a happy memory: Jan & Dean's "Little Old Lady From Pasadena." For some reason, it was stuck in my head the day I told The Weasel that I was quitting my job as a copy editor for his newspaper and therefore would never again need to look at a news story and think, "Can I run this, or will it cause negative feelings among our advertisers?"
Song that is forever tainted because of negative associations: Billy Joel's "Still Rock'n'Roll To Me." For some reason it was stuck in my head the day I met my second flasher, when I was fifteen. (I have no song associated with my first flasher, when I was six.)
Song or Artist that I am ashamed to admit I enjoy: ABBA.
Everybody congratulate
