I now have three stitches in the knuckle of my right ring finger. Yeah, I think I'll put the blade assembly of the food processor in the dish drainer and pile some other dishes on top of it so it can ambush me when I'm putting the clean dishes away, yay.

(I actually have another stupidity-related injury on that very same finger, but that one's only a small burn, requiring no medical attention.)

I had already given blood once today on purpose, and was not pleased to have to do it again by accident.

The spouse was late getting home, and I didn't want to drive, because, 1, can't grip steering wheel, and, 2, shocked and not thinking very clearly. "Call 911," kidlet says. "I don't think it's that much of an emergency," I say. Kidlet says, "Is there a 922?"

At least I don't have to cook Thanksgiving dinner -- though I do have to make a pie and some rolls, which probably won't be as much fun as it would otherwise be.

It's not very painful, and obviously it's not interfering with my typing all that much, though it slows me down. The worst thing is that I have difficulty holding anything; bending + squeezing = pain + an unnerving seeping sensation.

Also, that finger is heavily wrapped in white gauze, which makes it look like I'm making a rude gesture at the universe. Which is ... not untrue.

Gah! Heal quickly!

That's exactly what I do with my food processor blades, so double gah.

I'm hoping others will learn from my stupidity here. I'm so careful with knives, and yet I blithely put this other sharp thing any old place.

I had a very stressful morning before this, which probably made me clumsy -- similarly, back when my father had his heart surgery, I sprained my ankle the same day. Nature is a mother.

Gah. Nice one -- that's right out of my playbook. Heal fast!

Also, there really should be a 922. Kidlet = smart.

There should! because if I lived alone, I might actually have had to call 911 (for three stitches!) or else drive myself quite unsafely across town.

There needs to be something between "sucking chest wound, copter me to E.R." and "no, thanks, a bandaid will do."

Do doctors go on house calls where you live? Our GP is always willing to come by in urgent cases where the patients can't get to the practice. But on the other hand, I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be with my GP stitching up my hand. Not really what she's trained for...

Your GP should be trained to handle at least moderate cuts--it's part of general practice. Now, whether she's *practiced* lately is another matter ...

No, even when I was a kid, American doctors didn't do house calls any more. If someone's going to waste time in the healthcare industry, it is definitely not going to be the doctor.

It stinks, doesn't it? It's right next to the finger I had to get stitches in when I was in fourth grade. (That one ended up having a bright side: once I had a scar on my right hand, I finally learned left from right.)

Oh no! I've cut myself on this blade before, but only shallow little fingertip cuts where you say, "Damn," and go on cooking. It was surprising (and kind of reassuring) how easy it was to tell that this was not a trivial cut.

Ouch...I totally agree with the Kidlet on 922, When on I had my appendectomy, it wasn't that close to busting but it a still hurt enough that if i hadn't had my mom to drive me, I would've been screwed.

Yes! There are a lot of things that aren't serious enough for an ambulance and a police escort, but are way too serious for safe driving.
