The spouse is on kid duty in the mornings, so I didn't find out until dinnertime that the kidlet took my tarot deck to school for show and tell.

Head? Meet desk.

At least they're at Montessori, which means that probably nobody's praying for my soul tonight or planning to accuse me of witchcraft tomorrow.

Also? They think the deck is in their cubby. They think. If they've lost them, the two of them are so buying me a new deck.

Which deck? Some are so 'pretty', with complicated artwork, that they're easy to see more as artwork than anything else.

It's a Robin Wood, and it's gorgeous -- I'm sure it was more art for them than anything else.

She tells me that everybody was very interested in the Lovers (which has a naked man) and that the boys expressed theatrical mock horror at -- um, is it the two of cups? the one that looks like a wedding.

Robin does very good work. The art on the cards is the size of the original colored pencil work. Yes, the Two of Cups is the one that looks like a wedding in that sense, though I also think of the Four of Wands in that way, with a couple dancing under a canopy. BTW, one of the models for the Magician in that deck was my husband (he's known Robin for decades). And the Justice card is based on Katherine Kurtz. I used to know who more of the models were but I've lost track. Robin herself shows up a bit in the Empress.

You're the one I had that conversation with! I remembered that it was someone, but not which someone.

I don't know which of Wood's works I love more, the deck or The Theory of Cat Gravity. (http://www.robinwood.com/Catalog/Prints/PrintPages/CatGravPoster.html)

My favorite is this: Music Lover.

In the full-size version, there is a reflection of the harpist *in each scale* on the dragon, as well as some reflections of the artist who is painting the scene. And the source of all light is the dragon's eyes. I look at it and I hear music.

Fortunately, they were right there in her cubby. Now she's on the couch arranging them in alphabetical order.

Thank goodness.

Arranging them in alphabetical order isn't too bad a way to familiarise herself with the cards, especially if you're intending to get her a deck when she's older.

::snigger::

Was it wrong to give my 11 & 14 yr olds a tarot deck for Christmas? :P

Well, I don't see anything wrong with it; I'll probably buy the kidlet a deck as soon as I'm confident she's old enough not to lose cards. But I'm careful who I talk to about tarot cards; people are weirdly superstitious about them, and I don't want to invite craziness into my life if I can avoid it.
