resonant: It feels so good. (So good)
[personal profile] resonant
Right, because there aren't enough actual fandoms in the world; I have to write a story in a fandom that doesn't exist: I've just posted a new story on the movie "Hancock" to my website:

Flight
Hancock/Ray -- NC-17 -- 1,765 words
"You wanna know why superheroes don't have friends, Ray?"

Beta thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rivkat and [livejournal.com profile] shalott.

Okay, for a story in a nonexistent fandom, the awesome was completely extant. And you just nailed Hancock's voice completely. Wow.

Oh, I'm so glad! It's tough with a movie because you can't go back and re-watch it at will; I kept feeling like the voices were slipping away from me.

aslkd;ajl;f YES. VERY YES.

I cannot tell you how excited I am that someone's written fic for this. I OT3 it so hard. Shalott's comments in the story notes are spot on.

This was sweet and bitter and lovely.

"That's the plan," he said.

Oh, Hancock. It breaks my heart. You've left me wanting more. But what is there is awesome. I'm going to stop now before I grow more incoherent.

I'm so glad! There definitely needs to be more; if nothing else, fandom needs to rescue Mary from the stupid writers.

I don't know that I would say it's a good movie, taken all in all -- but it's the kind of bad that gives rise to good slash. I do recommend it.

A delightful, delicate job of capturing the essence of both Hancock and Ray, and the tragic-comic nature of Hancock's existence. Kind of a joke played by the gods. I liked the movie much more than I expected to, based on reviews, and your story kind of explains why. Thanks for sharing.

I only saw the movie because the New Yorker liked it; I have a feeling that people who like action comedies probably hated it because it promised one thing and delivered another. But it has exactly the kinds of ambiguities and missed opportunities that fandom can fix!

Haven't even read it yet, but I'm so excited! I've been desperately hoping for someone to write something in this fandom, and the fact that it's you is just icing on the cake. Off to read now!

Oh. Oh, man. Poor, poor Hancock. But this lets me have hope:

"Sure you do," Ray said, and, christ, he always sounded so confident. He could make you believe any impossible thing. "You have us."
And he does.

This was utterly, perfectly in-character Hancock: he wants, oh how he wants companionship, friends, and Ray gets it. Brava!

Ray's skin tasted clean and expensive, like something Hancock didn't know how to do anything with but break.

I can't believe this - you are going to pimp me into yet another fandom for a movie I haven't even seen.

Wait - then again, I do believe it. :)

Oh, wow. When I was watching this, I was totally wishing that someone who could actually do justice to their voices would write some fanfiction, and today I got a present on my f-list when I saw this! This was so amazingly good and so completely them and I have really no words to explain how much I loved this :) You rock!

It's really interesting! I wish there were a huge fandom for it, because it has exactly the kinds of flaws that fandom is so good at fixing, i.e. they've got some really intense personal tragedy-type stuff that they don't really know what to do with, so they add a few more explosions. Oh, and the threesome might as well be canonical.

i actually liked in that scene that they didn't make a huge deal about disavowing the homoerotic subtext. it was really sweet.

I loved your fic so much, although it also left me a little sad and wistful, because we don't really see him getting his happy ending either in the movie or in your fic. I was a little torn on the movie - parts of it would have worked so much better if handled by fandom writers! - but this was exactly the kind of story I was hoping would come out of it.

Look at it this way. Even the canon ending is better than this!
