(It's a favorite of my father, who shares the trait.)

A guy takes a job at a bank. The first day, his superivisor hands him a bundle of bills. "There ought to be a hundred in this stack. I need you to count and make sure."

The guy starts counting. "One ... two ... three ... four ... five ... six ... seven ..." Then he hands the stack back to his supervisor. "If it's right so far, I'm sure it's right all the way through."

LOL!

See, I'd be the person who counts the whole stack *twice*, just to make sure.

And I would be the person who lost count or got distracted halfway through and had to start over.

Sadly, I would be the person who counts it three times, with three different results.

Not only would I have to count them at least twice, I would b making little, perfectly neat stacks of every ten bills. Then recount them again as I put the stacks together.

Recently we were bottling our mead and I was showing a friend how to put the labels on the full bottles. Half way through her eyes narrowed and she waved me away. "Oh, wait, you have OCD, you don't get to watch me do it. No one will ever get them as straight as you."

And turn the bills all right side up and facing the same direction. Naturally. As one does.

It's nice to know I'm not the only person who does this. Though I really started doing it while I worked at a bank and never ever lost the habit.

I definitely do that without any money-related employment to drive me. Right now my spare change is sitting on a shelf in stacks, with a pile for each type of coin (though the pennies have two, because there are enough of them that one pile would be wobbly). It's a sickness.

Right, my limited time in retail gave me a permanent facing habit.

*snort*

I'm not sure I get it but it sounds funny. And if it sums up your personality, I am still more stumped.

But not to worry! Am German, after all, so naturally haff no zenze off humour... *gg*

I notice that I made a typo on the word "supervisor" in the original post, thus making this post into a thing which is an example of itself.

Just ... you know, careless, slapdash people, my dad and me.

My dad and I also say, "If you want to get a job done, give it to a lazy person, because lazy people can always figure out a quicker, easier way." Both of us speak from experience in this area.

It occurs to me that most of the trouble I've ever gotten into, I've gotten into in this way.

Oh, thank heaven. From the other responses, I was beginning to feel that everybody in fandom was careful and detail-oriented except me.

(Once I saw a resume that claimed the job applicant was "detail-orientated.")
