I know. Don't swoon or anything, but I've posted a new Due South [livejournal.com profile] cliche_bingo story to my website. This was written for the square "Folklore and Fairy Tales." For more information on just what sort of folklore gets you this, read the story notes.

Thanks to [personal profile] cesperanza for beta!

nnnnnnnrgh.

I would read pretty much anything you wrote. One of the reasons for that is that it is ALWAYS worth it. This story? Case in point.

Whoo. I need an ice bath now.

Oh, darlin'. If I didn't fear alienating you, I would tell you how your writing is a bit over half the reason I wound up in fandom in the first place (which is an extraordinarily good thing and has been life-changing). But I do, so I won't.

I don't think your view of their relationship is OOC. We know so little of it, and everything we learn is either through Ray's filtre or through Ben's - but what you write here makes sense to me. It's that frisson of actual danger that gets him, I think. (Well. That's one of the many things that sparks him up, IMO.)

Well, point :-s. I have this idea - probably misinformed in the extreme - that you have by now been told by so many people how important your work was to their getting into fandom in the first place (never mind staying in it) that any further encomia of that sort would feel stalkery. Which, no, because I don't do that and I would prefer to avoid giving that impression. But it is in fact the case that if I had not fortuitously stumbled upon "Waking" lo, these many years ago - 2001 or 2002, I think - my life would be very, very different now, and I think it would be very much the poorer.

I could expound, but I am late for work and not yet dressed properly. Sigh. There is never enough good awake early morning time for my purposes.

(Although, one other thing: I have read and reread every due South story you've written more times than I can count - your fic is one of my happy places, and believe me I have NEEDED those over the last few years - and the quality and rightness of what you write never fail to amaze me.)

HEEEEEEEE. Oh, that was great. It's slightly bad luck that I was JUST listening to the Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick version of that today, so I caught it at the title, but it's still a fabulous story. Just stunning.

Wow! I read this late last night, and the timing was so weird because yesterday afternoon I had been rereading quite a few of your shorter stories and wondering when you'd post something new again.

Because I'm not fabulously well-read, I was very surprised by the reveal. Nice Job! It even took me a bit to realize she hadn't *hired* someone to do the job.

It's awesome! I loved it. I love your Ray and I love the way you write Stella - not really a pleasant peron, but possessing a certain wilful charm. I can easily see why Ray fell for her in the first place and why it could never work out between them. Thanks for the story. It was a pleasure to read it.

too late!

This is twisted! I really enjoy reading your interpretation of RayK/Stella - they always have wildly hot sex with some unexpected twist, with a little bittersweetness, cuz it's always clear their relationship isn't quite right for either of them.

Wow, that's an awesome ballad, and a sinfully hot story.

Oh, god. He could have this with her. He could have anything with her.

I feel sort of simultaneously elated by this ending, and saddened by the knowledge that, ultimately, it isn't true. Oh, Ray.

This is fantastic! I guessed when Ray describes his attacker as a kid, but I thought it was very believable that Ray wouldn't guess. I'm happy I didn't read the poem before I read the story because Ray's "No" was a lovely surprise. And wow, the sex is hot! I love how you describe Ray's reaction to learning the truth, and I love this Stella. She's amazing.
