New Due South story: "A Man Or No"
Jul. 19th, 2009 07:46 pmI know. Don't swoon or anything, but I've posted a new Due South
cliche_bingo story to my website. This was written for the square "Folklore and Fairy Tales." For more information on just what sort of folklore gets you this, read the story notes.

Date: 7/20/09 03:17 am (UTC)I would read pretty much anything you wrote. One of the reasons for that is that it is ALWAYS worth it. This story? Case in point.
Whoo. I need an ice bath now.

Date: 7/21/09 01:37 am (UTC)I don't think your view of their relationship is OOC. We know so little of it, and everything we learn is either through Ray's filtre or through Ben's - but what you write here makes sense to me. It's that frisson of actual danger that gets him, I think. (Well. That's one of the many things that sparks him up, IMO.)

Date: 7/23/09 12:34 pm (UTC)I could expound, but I am late for work and not yet dressed properly. Sigh. There is never enough good awake early morning time for my purposes.
(Although, one other thing: I have read and reread every due South story you've written more times than I can count - your fic is one of my happy places, and believe me I have NEEDED those over the last few years - and the quality and rightness of what you write never fail to amaze me.)

Date: 7/21/09 01:46 am (UTC)I have a Carthy version, but it says "if that you were me true love or no." I can't remember whose version had "a man or no" instead.
Huh, now that I think of it, the more obvious pairing for this might have been Fraser and Victoria. But I have a sneaky affection for Stella; Victoria, not so much.

Date: 7/20/09 12:17 pm (UTC)Because I'm not fabulously well-read, I was very surprised by the reveal. Nice Job! It even took me a bit to realize she hadn't *hired* someone to do the job.

Date: 7/21/09 02:01 am (UTC)That's well put, and it does describe her. Makes me wonder, actually, how this version of Stella would be as a mature woman; canon gives us almost nothing to go on except that she dates aldermen, still likes dancing with Ray, and ends up marrying the other Ray.
Possibly she's tough enough, and danger-loving enough, to cope with Vegas RayV.
too late!

Date: 7/21/09 05:05 pm (UTC)Oh, god. He could have this with her. He could have anything with her.
I feel sort of simultaneously elated by this ending, and saddened by the knowledge that, ultimately, it isn't true. Oh, Ray.
