December Daily: John and Rodney

I wandered away from SGA long before the series ended. I just checked Wikipedia -- are we really left with a status quo in which the city of Atlantis is floating in San Francisco Bay? It's probably completely overrun with sea lions by now.
If they're on Earth ... well, it's only a couple of years between the ending of the series and the 2011 repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Honestly, I think John would have had some trouble with that. As godawful as being forcibly closeted was for him, having to decide how open he wanted to be would have been very difficult. He probably goes through some very rough years.
Rodney wouldn't have a lot of patience for, uh, Rodney doesn't have a lot of patience, full stop. He's probably quite successful, with the kinds of patents and prizes that make a winning personality optional. However, based on the bit of him we saw in SG-1, a life of adventure and daily peril is the only thing keeping Rodney on the lovable side of the lovable asshole archetype.
So, in other words, it's only a matter of time before both John and Rodney have made such an entire mess of their lives on Earth that their only tenable option is a heist to steal the city of Atlantis. In 2020, that's the sort of thing that wouldn't even make the news, so it may be happening even as we speak.
