No, that's not a typo. [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza says HP has had a degenerative effect on my brain. But I defy anybody to read "Pippi Is Shipwrecked" without seeing this in the future.

Pippi Says Goodbye
Pippi/Tommy/Annika -- PG-13 -- 9K
Annika is the bravest of all of them.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza and [livejournal.com profile] darthfox for beta.

The sex is offscreen. Don't be afraid.

though I'll tell you frankly that I don't understand your concerns. I thought closeness was the point of family.

I love Pippi Longstocking. Thank you for making slash with that same Pippi style. Of course, I've never read it in English, only in Swedish, but it still feels like her. Yes.

I concur. I've read it in Dutch, seen screen adaptations in Swedish with Dutch subtitling, with Dutch voice-overs and in English with Dutch subtitling and it does indeed still feel like her. I particularly liked the nail-polish and the kimono and the motorcycle and stuff.

i love pippi's voice...Why, if we always kissed people who weren't going anywhere, we'd never do anything but kiss and annika's and tommy's interactions...it's just very, very right (and very, very wrong :-)

the only doll i ever had, i named annika :-)

Oh, my. You've gone and done it again.

It's possible HP has had an effect on you, yes, but if that's so, then it's an effect I heartily support!

This is actually quite poignant, and you even skirted the brother/sister thing successfully. Go you.

I'm not sure how well I would have handled the brother/sister angle if I'd written it in any more detail -- but I *couldn't* write it in any more detail, so it worked out OK. I figure everybody's free to imagine whatever they want.

I - wow. The whole Pippi Longstocking series was a big part of my childhood and I clicked here with great trepidation, but dear god, okay, yes, damn you, this makes really - utterly - perfect sense. Also? You got the writing style and the way Pippi talks down perfectly and I am astonished and full of admiration.

Oh my god, Res. I think you killed me dead. Dead, I tell you.

I personally don't have much of a problem with having my childhood memories corrupted. I've written a story myself in which the main character has neighbours, a couple, named Tommy & Annika. I think I'll always be giggling whenever I think of that time I dressed up as Pippi for Halloween. Tee hee.

But you did this so well. You've captured Pippi's bright & freckled personality just marvelously, and the lines about the camel and the coffee party on the roof were just brilliant. And Pippi's parting words? So great. :)

Now, is there any way I could convince you to write more? *grins*

This shouldn't work.

And it shouldn't be so *perfect.*

And it shouldn't make me so sad to know that, years down the road, Tommy and Annika will both be married to respectable, boring people, and both looking wistfully back at Pippi and wishing that they'd dared to try to stay with her, and consoling themselves not with the thought that it would never have worked, but with the thought that the other would have been heartbroken, even though they know it's not quite true.

This is quite fabulous. Astrid Lindgren would be proud, I'm sure – well, once she got over the initial shock, anyway. I've seen professional Pippi Longstocking fanfic that wasn't half as good.

One of the women at [livejournal.com profile] slasher_swedes is a huge Astrid Lindgren slash fan (she's the one who has made the rest of us try and write it). This'll be just the thing to cheer her up.

Wow, just wow. I bet that if Astrid Lindgren had written slash it would've been like this. Pippi was so Pippi. And the little things, like saying that the horse (Btw, what is his english name? In swedish he's called Lilla Gubben wich is sort of like Little Man.) just need a cup of coffee now and then and the 'tale' about the girls in Morocco makes it perfect. I only have one question, what've happened to the monkey? ;)

(no subject)

Date: 9/6/04 11:11 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] resonant8.livejournal.com
Oh, I never realized the horse had a name! In our English translation, he's always just called "the horse," which I always thought was a little odd.

I really should have included Mr. Nilsson, but, first, I couldn't bear the idea of having a little primate voyeur, and, second, I was afraid that if I did any research, I would discover that a monkey would be dead of old age before Pippi was 18, and I couldn't bear that, either.

You rock.
When I was a kid, I loved those books. I recently went into the kid's section of the library and found those books again and reread them and they were even better than I remembered.
This is the kind of fic that doesn't warp my childhood memories but makes them even better. It's like the characters are growing up and discovering...things...along with me.
