Daring rescues
Jan. 27th, 2012 09:00 pmIn the past week, I have had three dreams in which the kidlet and I were responsible for trying to rescue babies, cats, or both. (Once we failed, once the dream caught us in mid-rescue with the ending still uncertain, and I can't remember how the third one came out.)
The spouse is nowhere to be seen in these dreams. I think it's kind of cool, though, that the kidlet now figures in my dreams as an ally in difficult and important work.

In a similar vein, I'm no longer willing even to watch a movie or read a book if it gets its urgency from a child in trouble -- to me that now seems like cheating; it's too easy to get my emotions churned up in that way.

Maybe! It wouldn't surprise me if cats were representing much the same thing, since I've been nurturing felines for a lot longer than I've been a parent. And I have been thinking some new thoughts, and feeling protective of them (to the point of not being willing to share them with anyone) -- maybe that's what I'm working through.
