Hee, I was holding off on fb until I could re-read this in non-coffeeshop mode, but I see Sarah beat me here already. :D

I was seriously just thinking the other day that I want to see more fic set during the "howling commandos blow stuff up" montage bit of the movie. And I think it was actually a great idea for the movie to *do* that section as a montage, and then skip straight to the big boss fight, but characterization-wise, it's just *so rich* in unexplored possibility-- Steve gaining confidence and becoming a leader, Steve managing such a diverse group, the people they must have met and the places they'd have been, Steve and Bucky's evolving relationship-- and you've touched on all those things here.

And your Steve is really great-- losing his naivete, but not his sweetness. <3 Loved it.

The whole conversation was especially funny to me because the whole source of this idea in the first place was me going, "Is there any plausible way to get the kid some sexual experience before he hits the twenty-first century with a bang?"

characterization-wise, it's just *so rich* in unexplored possibility

It really is. You could unpack a whole other movie out of it, really. But movies don't do that kind of thing all that well, as a rule -- if you don't get a little montage and Timon & Pumbaa singing, then you tend to get something like a video game, where the team must complete level after level, finding a different magical tool on each level, until they reach the really big battle, with characterization handled by means of different reactions to danger, different speech patterns, and somebody having a photo in his wallet.

So this is what fanfiction is for!
