Well, I saw Hansel and Gretel; Jeremy and Gemma are very, very pretty, and it was kind of cartoonishly fun once I managed to get my cultural-criticism lobe cranked down to a quiet whimper.

As far as fandom goes, I can't generate any enthusiasm for any imaginable slash pairing, but I wouldn't mind reading Gretel with Edward. It would undercut the "unattractive or disabled = evil" message that clung like slime to every minute of the film.

I suppose you could slash Hansel with fanboy-whose-name-I've-forgotten? Sleazy but potentially fun. I'm pretty sure Hansel+Gretel=OTP, although I think they share: his promise to get back to Mina after he found his sister had a tinge of "And then we can have a threesome; I call middle!" And Gretel/Edward gives me fuzzies.

Hah! I want Gretel/Edward too!!!

(meanwhile, at least having a medical condition didn't equal evil in the movie. That's...um...something?)

Oh, good point -- I couldn't quite put my finger on that aspect of what bugged me (because I was busy being annoyed by other aspects). For me the stuff with Gretel and Edward was the soul of the film -- my biggest issue (well, OK, one of them) was that there was absolutely no character building and no relationships explored. Everything was just explained, and I wanted to see more about the people themselves. And her stuff with Edward was the closest they came during the entire thing. Even the stuff with Mina and Hansel wasn't that deep. Which, just, jeez.

Yeah, I figure if I actually get myself to go see it, that's my plan going in. I'm thinking if I keep my expectations to: Jeremy Renner is hot, that actress seems pretty hot too, maybe there will be cool special effects...I figure I'll be pretty ready to enjoy myself. Also, I might have a drink first. :)

Check for a matinee showing, and yeah, a drink couldn't hurt. =)

That really bothered me, too. Sadly, I'm not sure it was icky enough to catch a lot of people on my usual test, Let's try this the other way. But that definitely wasn't what I'd call enthusiastic consent.
