Well, I saw Hansel and Gretel; Jeremy and Gemma are very, very pretty, and it was kind of cartoonishly fun once I managed to get my cultural-criticism lobe cranked down to a quiet whimper.
As far as fandom goes, I can't generate any enthusiasm for any imaginable slash pairing, but I wouldn't mind reading Gretel with Edward. It would undercut the "unattractive or disabled = evil" message that clung like slime to every minute of the film.

Date: 1/30/13 03:12 am (UTC)Maybe that's why the yay-witchhunting-team ending seemed so odd to me -- because it seemed like it was setting up for a "we sweep into town, kill stuff, and leave; we don't change anybody and nobody changes us" type fate for them, not a "and that's our superhero team's origin story" fate.
Also -- maybe this is because I was there with my kid -- that pool scene with Mina and Hansel creeped me out because it was like he was doing everything he could not to signal interest, or even consent. I was sitting there thinking, "If this is what people are used to seeing in movies, leading up to happy consensual sex, then it's no wonder if some of them have some trouble reading each other's signals in real life."

Date: 1/30/13 03:45 am (UTC)Yeah, I figure if I actually get myself to go see it, that's my plan going in. I'm thinking if I keep my expectations to: Jeremy Renner is hot, that actress seems pretty hot too, maybe there will be cool special effects...I figure I'll be pretty ready to enjoy myself. Also, I might have a drink first. :)
