Kilting the lily
Aug. 25th, 2013 08:37 pmLast night I had a temp job checking IDs at an Irish music festival. This was a triumph of assignment choices, since this was the first time I had ever seen an ID from the new state; if anybody had a fake, I certainly wouldn't have been able to recognize it.
There were far too many of us doing the work, and, since we put a blue wristband on everybody we carded, very quickly every young-looking person who came to buy beer was already marked. So I spent a lot of time people-watching. (Dear unknown pair of women: when you find yourself in a public place having a loud shouted argument with a man dressed as a pirate, possibly you've had too much to drink.)
And I was enjoying looking at a lot of kilts.
First, there was a kilted tiny toddler, so small that that kilt undoubtedly had a diaper underneath it, who was adorable.
Then there were guys in kilts with flip-flops or with nondescript black shoes, which was nice enough.
Then there were guys in kilts with black high-tops, which was a look that I liked quite a bit. Kilts with combat boots ditto.
Then there were guys in kilts with shirts like police officers and firefighters wear -- short-sleeved white shirts with official-looking badges on one arm. And for some reason, this was a look that I found quite unexpectedly stirring.
I swear I never used to find any part of a police uniform sexy before fandom.
(Feel free to reply with photos if the mood takes you!)

found here.
I have a GREAT picture of The Piper high-fiving a leeeeettle boy-fan in a kilt, but I don't have it at hand. I actually have to dig up a photo of him for some Austin event program this evening, so I will throw that puppy into a web directory so it can be shared. It really is pretty cool.
