[personal profile] ranalore prompts: fannish soundtracks?

I know I'm not going to do this question justice! -- I came to it too late tonight and with too little time. I'm sorry, [personal profile] ranalore! I'd love to read your thoughts (or anyone else's) on the same subject.

When the kidlet writes, they assign one musical artist to each major character. The advantage of this is that once they've associated a character with an artist, each new song can reveal new facets of the character's personality.

I've never done anything that formal, but I've certainly had the experience where, when I'm obsessed with a character or a setting, a song takes on expanded meaning and seems to shed light on whatever I'm thinking about.

And yet I can't really think of any musical connection I've made with Sherlock; unlike other fandoms, Sherlock has never snapped into focus around a song. I wonder if that means something? edited 2020 to retroactively correct the kidlet's gender pronouns

That musical connection to an obsession is what I was wondering about, so you definitely addressed my main point of curiosity. *G* And then gave me bonuses both with your mention of not really associating anything musical with Sherlock (I don't watch it, so I don't know what that might mean, though if you're up for speculating, I'd love to read that), and talking about kidlet's process. I have a few songs I tend to associate with specific character archetypes, and a few more I associate with certain types of fandom, so I start from those and build. I always like to hear how other fans deal with the intersection of fandom and music.
