I'm crazy about Tom Hardy, but the new Mad Max movie tripped my torture squick repeatedly in the first half of the trailer.

Oh, well. Maybe some of the slash will be safe to read.

Was that Max stomping the lizard? Bit bloody gratuitous.

Animal harm seems to come in on a different circuit that's less painful for my brain. My problems started with the chained man being towed behind the convoy and continued with whatever was going on with the person in the iron muzzle, at which point the Nope threshold was passed.

I guess I just expect the torture and mayhem and general beastliness by the bad guys in Mad Max movies, but (if that was Max - too much hair?) the lizard scene had no point except to brand him as randomly and impulsively cruel. Which the old Max never was. Bad-tempered, yes, but always the anti-hero whose well-concealed heart's in the right place. I'd still like to see how Hardy handles the role although if there's almost no dialogue it'll probably be just endless drag races and punch-ups. Interspersed with torture. Not sure who he'd be slashed with - the Nux kid?
