The news is apocalyptically awful, of course. But I'm a Southerner, and I never expected that I would live to see those statues come down. It was something I didn't even dare to hope for.

Yes, living in KY, I feel the same way. The news is toxic right now,but I'm heartened by the general push back to the racist leader's comments.

As to the statutes celebrating the "War of Northern Aggression" as it's often referred to in the South, the sooner they're gone, the better I say. All the symbols of hate need to go the way of the dinosaurs. It's never been about heritage but it's always been about hate and "white pride".
