Just today I finished Emma Newman's Planetfall, which was intense and mostly enjoyable, though I found the religion super-unconvincing. I'm still digesting my thoughts and feelings; in a day or two I should be ready to say a little more on Goodreads.

Also today^* I very much enjoyed Siria's "Judith and Her Maidservant," a gen Venom story focusing on Dora Skirth. (I'm enjoying gen more nowadays than I used to. Really looking forward to this year's Yuletide.)

^* I started using a CPAP machine last week, and apparently I had been losing at least an hour a day to apnea naps (napneas?), because suddenly the days are longer than I expect them to be. I'm not complaining, but it's taking some getting used to.

congrats on the cpap machine! you may have just avoided several years of hypoxia-induced dementia at the end of your life!

I think all our health would be much better if instead of getting several years of _____ at the end of our lives, we were forced to endure an hour of _____ every other day. I know I'd exercise more.

I really enjoyed Planetfall, except the ending, which I think I mentioned in my review. The assume that factors into your religion comment...looking forward to your review!

It's driving me nuts that I can't get the kidlet to read it; I want so badly to bounce ideas off someone in real time. The further I get from it, the more my enjoyment of it gets muddied.

Oh, hey, I'd be interested to hear about your experience with the CPAP machine if you're comfortable sharing and still have question slots open. If not--congrats on squeezing an extra hour out of the day!

Glad to hear you got a diagnosis and treatment for your apnea!

I'm a CPAP evangelical - I got my first machine a decade ago, and it made such an immediate positive impact on my life that I highly encourage anyone with tiredness or sleep issues to get a sleep study. I can babble on further about CPAP stuff if you want. :)

I used to work with a guy from the north of England, and when he couldn't do a task, he'd say, "I'm strooglin' with it." So that's where I am on Planetfall now: I'm strooglin' with it.
