[personal profile] flamingsword, How much weight do you give to criticism in fic comments, and do you feel that it is a healthy amount?

Far too much. Far, far too much.

First let me say that I love it when people comment and tell me about an issue that's easy to fix. (Misspelling, factual error, typo, local color error like getting a street name wrong.) I certainly don't want to discourage people from doing that.

And I believe that people ought to be free to express their opinions, and that if I don't want people to have negative opinions about something, then I shouldn't share it publicly.

But I take it to heart when someone doesn't like something, much more than I should.

I have to pretend that fandom anon communities don't exist, because if I allow myself to look at them, I'll look at them obsessively and be hurt and angry all the time.

I believe that this is not a good way to feel, but I feel this way just the same!

22 -- [personal profile] mekare, What would Ben Fraser do in 2018?
23 -- [personal profile] marina, "What was the last book you read that wasn't fanfic and that you intensely loved, and why."
24 -- [personal profile] wychwood, "Something about SGA! What's the one fic you're sorry you never wrote? What was your favourite episode? Do you still love John/Rodney? How gay WAS John Sheppard? Where in Atlantis would you live if you could pick any room you liked? Pick one or a topic of your choice."
25 -- [personal profile] isabellerecs, "What was your most favorite Christmas present that you ever received as a kid?" and/or "What Christmas present had you wanted badly but never received as a kid?"
26 --[personal profile] runpunkrun, I'd be interested to hear about your experience with the CPAP machine.
27 --[personal profile] destina, "how has your relationship to fandom changed over the years? By which I mean not just participation in it, but your level of tolerance/interest for the cyclical things about it, the way old arguments never really stop or die, etc, but also the ways fandom changes and new ways of doing fandom evolve. (And old ways evolve out, and terms evolve, etc.)"
28 -- [personal profile] kass, "What do you like best about where you live?"
29 --
30 -- [personal profile] china_shop, "Your favourite book you read this year."
31 -- [personal profile] wolfshark, "what is your favorite story to reread of your own stuff? what was your favorite story to write?"

29: What is the most beautiful sight you see outside on a regular basis? Can be a building, landscape, plant, animal, artwork, people playing, whatever.

I definitely avoid the fandom anon communities for the same reason. I'm not popular enough to generally come up in people's mind when they bitch and moan over yonder, but on the slim chance someone picks a bigger work of mine...yeah, not mentally prepared for that. I have one friend who keeps looking at these comms the way someone would pick at a scab, and just the same it has scarred her.

:P

That’s one way to look at it!

(I’m a total VIP in my own mind, so I don’t mind if other people don’t run their mouth about me.)

Thank you for this.

I don't have comment much on my fic, but I need to get my head straight before I start really writing stuff for pairings that are active and will get me potential negative comments.

But I'm not sure how to do that.
