December Semi-Daily: Fraser in 2018

OK, so dates are meaningless. I knew at the outset that when I was in Spouseville I wouldn't be able to answer questions because there's no wifi. I don't know why I didn't just leave those dates out ...

mekare asks, What would Ben Fraser do in 2018?

Let's start here:



Gross is five years older than I am, so Fraser is, you know, probably not running down back alleys any more, but not quite old enough to retire.

(Incidentally, when I looked up when Mounties retire [because of course I did], I discovered that some RCMP drug-sniffing dogs have had to retire early because you can't teach a trained dog not to sniff out marijuana, which may affect Diefenbaker's life. Do not tell me that Diefenbaker is not still alive, because I don't want to hear it.)

I can see Fraser having left the force for any number of reasons, but it's also fun to imagine that he's working a desk job managing younger Mounties and finding that his daily job gives him more sympathy for Welsh every day.



I like to think he's not alone.

Wow. I did not expect Paul Gross to have aged so well. But I definitely like the idea of him settling down to more of an admin supervisory role.

I think he'd actually be a hilariously terrible lieutenant! Because no matter how old he gets, I can't quite believe that he would ever lose that attitude where he finds it unimaginable to do anything less than try for perfection. Someone would have to always be thwapping him on the back of the head and telling him to cut it out.

Of course he's not alone. Someone needs to test the new recruits on how well they handle the unexpected. Ray loves doing that.

Since I didn't discover Due South until about 3 years ago, it's still a bit jarring to realize how much time has passed since it was on the air. They are both still incredibly attractive.

When I was in the fandom, the series had recently ended. It's unbelievable to me how many years ago that was.

*hearteyes* Oh man, I would watch the hell out of a show about admin Fraser still having to deal with weird stuff ('cause he's Fraser) with his husband Ray and their Dief (who's still around just a little slow nowadays) but not so much running through alleys or getting shot at.

I like to imagine that there are generations of Dief's offspring around making trouble.

Aaaaargh I *can’t* go and reread all my fave ds fics now, I have one bajillion Yuletide tabs opened!!!!

(Also, because I fell into this fandom years after it ended, my headcanon Fraser and Ray pretty much age as the actors do, so silver fox Fraser is a given :)))) )

by complete coincidence, Ray with his glasses on looks so much like Jensen I am now convinced there's a universe out there where Ray's Jensen's dad but I tend to crossover everything

I can see that, though it may be that his superiors wouldn't like some of the things he was teaching. "And then he told you to put what in your mouth?"

SO MUCH THIS. I actually love this idea for Fraser behind a desk with Ray there to keep him from overdoing it with the expectations of new recruits....
