[personal profile] wolfshark, "what is your favorite story to reread of your own stuff? what was your favorite story to write?"

I think still, after all these years, I'd have to say my favorite to write was Broadway Hotel, a Due South story from omg 2001. It was a level-up for me, more subtle than anything I had ever taken on up to that point, with more emotion that required more careful handling. I remember the writing of it as a thing of joy, though I'm sure at the time I had periods when I would have said, "This is a nightmare! Why do I do this shit for fun?"

At the moment, my favorite one to reread is Higher Education (the Breakfast Club one), maybe because the fandom is so small that there's no baggage, no difficult memories associated with it. Or maybe just because Bender's voice is so much fun.

Higher Education is also my favorite story of yours to re-read (in fact, your mentioning it just now just triggered ANOTHER re-read, because that's never not a good choice)! Which is to say: with all the excellent stories you have to pick from, A+++ choice there. Because, as you say, Bender's voice IS so much fun. And your just a bit older, and just a bit more worldly Brian is also a fucking delight.

(Though possibly my favorite background bit of that story is Wysocki's garage full of stray gay boys - which you do a great job of laying the groundwork on, for Bender's belated epiphany - because it's just so, yes, that's exactly how things happen sometimes. ♥)

I’ve kept the epub of Higher Education ever since I first read it, years ago, and I revisit it a couple of times per year. I can’t remember if I ever commented over on A03, so I thought I’d leave a note on this post to say thank you for that story. :D

Higher Education was lovely fun to read but essentially original fic for me since I went to high school in the sixties and never saw the movie.

Transfigurations is one of my time favorites, by anyone, in any fandom. It's a comfort reread for me.
