[personal profile] runpunkrun -- strong feelings about books.

So only thoughts that can be expressed with exclamation points.

The main conflict in the book shouldn't be able to be resolved with one conversation!

The main conflict in the book shouldn't boil down to "the protagonist has assertiveness problems"!

I don't really need to know all that backstory up front! No, no, I don't! I'll roll with you for a while if you give me a person I care about who's actually doing something.

A character needs to want something! And make some effort to get it!

Books that are part of a series need to say so on the cover! And also in the library listing! So I won't keep accidentally checking out Book 3 of 5!

I realize that this is not easy, but in a romance, I need to be able to understand why the characters should be together and also why they are not already together!

Almost nobody outside of fandom can competently write sexual tension!

Truth. It's amazing how unconvincing most published fiction is at this.

Ugh, I skimmed through a library book yesterday and today that was written in a number of first-person POVs, and everyone sounded the same! There was literally nothing to distinguish one narrator from another. Different characters should sound different! This is my current strong feeling!
