[personal profile] pauraque -- your favorite movies as a kid (or favorite kids' movies as an adult)

It's amazing to me how different the kidlet's relationship to movies is from mine, because I was a kid in the pre-video days when you only got to see what was in the theater and what was on "The Wonderful World of Disney."

I remember enjoying "Fantasia" a lot, and then there's a gap until "Butch Cassidy and the Sunshine Kid" and eventually "Star Wars."

Once the kidlet was movie age, of course, I did watch the same movies over and over. My very favorite was "Lilo and Stitch." I think eventually I watched the "This is my family. I found it all on my own" scene without crying, maybe. I think we watched at least one of the sequels, but it wasn't the same at all.

That scene made me cry so much! A Lilo & Stitch rewatch this weekend sounds just the thing (especially since only my dog will be around to watch me happy-cry over Stitch's found family).

Oh, man. Somehow I didn't watch Lilo and Stitch when my older daughter was young. A few years ago, when the younger got told enough for movies, we watched it. I'm basically crying the whole time. I look over at Emma, and she's got tears streaming down her face, and she's all, "That could be me and Fiona!" And Fiona's all, "What's wrong with you two?" LOL Such a good movie.

Totally agree on Lilo and Stitch. Also, I have very good memories of Fantasia. I rewatched that one a lot on VHS.

Thanks for the answer! The generational differences in how kids consume their media were at the back of my mind when I asked the question. I grew up at the very beginning of the VHS era, when being able to watch a movie over and over was a brand new concept. But I wonder if officially-released movies were expensive, because although I occasionally got one as a Christmas present, most of the time I was watching movies that I or my mom had taped off of TV broadcasts (which means that the versions of classic movies that I remember are often edited for time and language, and include occasional snippets of 1980s Pepsi commercials).

Yes! I remember in X-Files fandom in the 90s, "reviewing canon" for a fic often meant consulting text scripts of episodes that fans had painstakingly transcribed and posted online. Sometimes there would be official releases of the "best of" a series, like two-to-four episodes on a tape, but that was it.
